★☆☆☆☆ Disappointing Experience – Ruined My Son’s Birthday
I booked a room at the Courtyard by Marriott in downtown Montreal through Expedia as a birthday gift for my 18-year-old son. The room was fully paid in advance, and the plan was for him to enjoy the hotel’s amenities pool, spa, gym, after work while I was at a sports tournament. He had even asked his boss to leave work early to enjoy the hotel. Unfortunately, what should have been a relaxing and memorable evening turned into a frustrating and disappointing experience.
Despite arriving at the hotel at 4pm, my son was denied check-in because he didn’t have a credit card. He explained that the room was prepaid and that I would arrive later to handle any additional charges, but the staff refused to accommodate him. He ended up waiting in the lobby for three hours until I had finished my tournament and saw his calls. When I called the hotel, clearly upset, they still wouldn’t budge until I spoke with a supervisor. Only then did they send me an online form to enter my credit card details. They claimed it was “hotel policy” to require a credit card at check-in, even for prepaid bookings, but this was never mentioned in my Expedia confirmation or booking details.
This lack of flexibility and poor communication ruined what was supposed to be a special night. I expected better from a Marriott property.
