I liked Vanessa, the front desk girl I checked in with. But this hotel cost me a lot more than it should have, even with Carnaval going on. The rock hard bed and pillow caused issues with my back, shoulders, neck and jaw. The door doesn't lock from the inside from what I saw. It was quieter than other places I stayed in and in a good location though. The AC system doesn't work properly, so my room was either too hot or too cold (when it was on)

I wouldn't stay there again. The area the hotel is localized is too dangerous

The rooms were filthy with stains and hair everywhere, the shower head had mold all in it, we walked around bare foot for merely minutes and the soles of our feet were black. The room was so bad we had to leave and find somehwere new. The only thing good about this place was the front desk workers as they were nice but I would not not recommended this place to anyone.

Great price. Local area isn't the best especially at night, but buses and taxis are available literally at the front door.

Hotel is cheap for what you pay for. Its two blocks away from the metro stop pres. Vargas and from there you can go anywhere in rio. Not that bad area just not in downtown rio.

Great hotel. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Hotel is located in a good location if you do not want to stay on the beach. A lot of local attractions are in walking distance. Would recommend this hotel.

We got off a cruise ship so this hotel was conveniently close. Although the neighborhood was dicey (risky, unpredictable). It was close to the Central train & bus station. As two women using public transportation we managed ok close to buses & metro. Since there were events nearby due to the Olympics there was a lot of foot traffic in the area along with buses, cars & taxis. At other times I wouldn't want to walk at night in this neighborhood. The hotel of course doesn't measure up to it's photos, the shower, toilet, sink worked adequately but old with patched tiles cracked sinks. This is not a "throw-away" society, they make due with what the've got patch & repair. The room was small, the bed short, but the AC and 2 lifts worked as well & free WIFI. Though "old" it served us ok. For the Olympics the price was good. Breakfast ok. The front desk people were very "simpatico" friendly and very helpfull.

This was a great simple hotel. It was very clean. We only needed it for one night and it was perfect for this. It was a great price and the staff were very nice and helpful. I saw in a previous comment that no one spoke English. I spoke broken portuguese and didnt have a problem. Fantastic breakfast! All Brazil hotels who say they have free breakfast is really only french bread and powdered coffee. This was not the case here. They had an amzing breakfast with hot and cold options.

This Hotel is on the Northern end of the Centro (Downtown) area of Rio in an older underdeveloped area that could use a facelift. It's a short hike to Ave Rio Branco and the modern area of Downtown. The hotel itself was like stepping back into the 1960 Vegas...I felt like I was waiting from Dean Martin,Sammy Davis Jr. & Frank Sinatra to walk in with their Martini glasses. lol The room I had was their top of the line room ($64) more like the Apartments in Rio I use to stay in. There is lot's of space with a glass enclosed Jacuzzi Tube in the middle of the room and a King sized bed and wall couch (60's style). The Bathrooms were big and very nice with a locker room like shower with outstanding water pressure, though it could use better lighting over the mirror area. For the frequent traveler to Rio like myself who wants to get away from the tourist scene in Copa and wants to experience another part of the city while not spending too much money...the Pompeu is a viable option. Backpackers who want to be one step above a Hostile for not much more money, the single rooms will be more than adequate.

ROOM TINY and 500mls of water for $5 is a bit over the top when it's only worth about 50c in the supermarket.

The service and recommendations assistant on the reception was pretty good and breakfast was good also. The near street was under construction, so it was hard to arrived to the hotel by my car. The smell in side the room was no so good.

Extreme noise from very busy street all day and night - You just cannot sleep even with the ear plugs so I asked to change the room for one that is not facing the street. After a little bit of a hustle I got another room that was just about the size the bed and enough room to walk around to the washroom.. I was staying for 6 days in this hotel and had a luggage that I could not put anywhere in standing position let alone to lay it down. So I explained to the front desk gentleman the situation and after several minutes of arguments another room was given to me. I moved my stuff again just to discover that the AC is not working and you cannot flush the toilette. Washrooms are about the size of the washroom you would find in the airplane including the sink - I am not exaggerating ! Never ending story and struggle for 6 days! Stay away from this hotel

My stay was uncomfortable. The room did have the sauna and jetted tub but everything was unclean. I felt the need to go out and purchase sanitizing wipes and air freshener. However, the price is incredibly low so we got what we paid for. Overall, I would not book this hotel again unless they did some serious renovating.

I had a great stay in this hotel . The complimentary breakfast was great and the hotel staff are welcoming and accommodating as well. The neighborhood at night isn't as ideal but the hotel is well worth the stay. I was able to go to all the tourist attractions easily via public transportation and at night the bus was close to the hotel as well. I would definitely return to this hotel.

there is a reason all the pictures are extremely close up....it's so you can't see the horrible conditions around the hotel. The breakfast was very good though and the staff was accommodating. Do not use the tour service the hotel advertises In the lobby.

One of the only hotels available (and within any kind of reasonable price range) when I started to look for Rio hotels for New Years. Front staff was good, but I got charged an exorbitant amount for an extra bed. The lobby must have been recently renovated and was very nice, but the rooms have old furnishings and very hard, uncomfortable mattresses. One of our room's airconditioning unit could not keep the room comfortable temperature due to the fact that the room was located next to some type of heat exhaust ductwork. The neighborhood is not as bad as many other reviewers indicated and it is a short 4 blocks to the metro.
