Breakfast was solid. My gripe is that I booked a room with a private bathroom, but when I was shown the room I was told that the shower and the toilet were on the other side of the landing. No private bathroom even though I’d paid for one.

Lovely aspect, spotless room, would have preferred en suite bathroom, even though private bathroom on same landing. I stayed at top of prooerty in single room, personally found stairs a bit of a trial . Very quiet, can't comment on food as room only. Nice to have tea making facilities in room. Bed comfortable and warm. Beautiful gardens outside, well appointed for stroll to beach and village.

Avoid. Found out, common knowledge in the town that 'he' has a terrible reputation; been up for sale for years-no wonder. Arrogant and insulting. Room full of faults.

Excellent position to explore Watersmeet and Valley of the Rocks. Incredibile and breathtaking views never seen in my life! The hotel has his peculiar Victorian style, which we absolutely loved! Super clean and tidy, everything in the hotel was looked after and very well maintained. Just perfect! I can't wait to come back here again

We really loved our stay , the hosts were very welcoming and breakfast was lovely. We enjoy staying somewhere with character and it definitely has that !and it was super clean .lynmouth is beautiful and there is plenty to do in the area we reckon the circular walk to Watersmeet and Countisbury and also the riding sun pub if you want a fancy meal We would definitely stay again Thankyou 🙂

Lovely small room overlooking the river. The sound of the river flowing was relaxing and therapeutic. The host was charming as well as his wife and son. I was upgraded which was another bonus.

Very old property. Pleasant owners, however furnishings ancient, only x2 . Bath towels, x2 of us,not changed during our x3 night stay, hotel staff “forgot “ to service out room on one day. Mismatched old bedding and towels, felt like they belonged in my grandparents era! The pillows were 2ins thick and solid! Low ceilings, couldn’t be helped. Breakfast was good. Don’t think I’d recommend Sorry

The Captain’s House is set in a picturesque location. We stayed in the room which was accessed from the pretty garden via a spiral staircase. We were made to feel welcome from the time we arrived to the time we departed. The host was fully of local knowledge and pointed us to the places to visit. The breakfast was fair and the room dated but this is what we expected and this added to the unique charm. The only downside was the parking was not onsite but was along the lane next to the river and B&B, so once you had a spot to park, you couldn’t move your car, as spaces were sparse during the day. Also Lynmouth was busy and all bars and restaurants were fully booked, so had to take chance by eating early outside. There are great walks from the B&B to the Valley of the Rocks and following the river up the valley to Watersmeet, Rockford. Would we stay again, yes is the answer.

The guy who runs the hotel is fine - just treat is little foibles with a pinch of salt. He’s old school, and is actually quite helpful regarding trip advice etc. The hotel itself is a stereotype of terrible British coastal bed and breakfasts. Damp smelling, fairly dirty, tiny rooms, outdated decor, no toiletries (and little toilet paper), horrible carpets, lumpy beds, leaky pipes etc. The ‘continental’ breakfast is cardboard toast and a limited range of cereals (i.e. a British breakfast from the 1970s); the full English breakfast is ok, but the sausages and egg aren’t great. North Devon isn’t a cheap place to stay of course, but at £140 per night this hotel is still not good value for money. Were it £70 per night it would be ok.

The B&B is in a lovely position next to the river. We had a brilliant view from our room. The decor and furnishings are very eclectic and some bizarre. The property could do with a declutter. Initially there was a mix-up with our booking and we were shown to the wrong room, so not a good start. Breakfast was served too late - we were walking SWCP and needed an early start.
