10/10 for the stay. Just a bit expensive for a hostel. Perhaps due to it's proximity to the downtown.

Great budget conscious option in central Victoria. Lovely staff, very clean rooms (didn’t stay in the dorm), bathroom, facilities, etc. It’s a no-nonsense place, but a friendly vibe. Breakfast is included but self-serve. You get your own dishes and you wash them. The choices are fairly healthy and offer fuel for the day. Dinner was also included but I missed those. I found it quiet and felt secure. 4.5/5 strongly recommended.

Location Location Location !!!!! TOTALLY Fun vibe with free bar drinks, breakfast, and DINNER !!! Hannah is always smiling laughing and contagious to everyone ... so is Yannie the male bartender ... Our street goes straight thru the island with the downtown harbor on one end and the upscale coastal village of Oak Bay on the other .GET A BIKE !! The staff suggested Cycle BC on Humboldt&Douglas (10min walk!!) Ander was very helpful with an AWESOME CRUISER rental at a GREAT PRICE w/our HOSTEL DISCOUNT !!

I like that it’s cheaper than orhers that’s unique. But the place was so untidy specially the washrooms. I literally avoided drinking so I will not pee. That place is so gross. That will be my first and last

Very convenient hostel with fulfilling meals. The free drink per night helps bringing people together.

Breakfast, dinner and a beverage included with stay. Staff was very friendly. Very little parking at the hostel but there is a parking garage very close by.

The staff were all very kind and helpful. Everything was also very clean. Overall, I had a pleasant stay!

I was amazed for a Hostel how clean everything was from my room, the lobby and the kitchen area. The breakfast was perfect to get me started on my day. The dinner was adequate to have something on my stomach. Never have I had something given for dinner so that was an added bonus. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. Being able to store my backpack on my last day was a bonus. I would definitely stay here, again.

I only spent a night at this hostel, but it was a good experience. The complimentary drink was a welcome surprise. The breakfast was good, but I could have used some milk and sweetener for my coffee (it could be that they keep those on the back or something, I was running out so can't really tell and had no time to ask). Staff was very welcoming and helpful. Room was clean and so were the washrooms, which are for a single occupant at a time. I used one of the single rooms and it was quiet and cozy. Definitely recommend to anyone visiting Victoria.

Not so cheap bare bones room with shared bathrooms. Room was quiet, dark and cool despite no a/c

Free dinner 6-8pm and drink 5-10:30pm. Free breakfast in the morning. Room was clean as was bed. Bar fridge in room and a fan. Could not hear anything through the walls or the ceiling. Bathrooms were clean. Storage lockers with locks ($10 refundable deposit). Amazing staff. Would definitely not have issues staying here again.

Dinner was delicious as was the breakfast. Anything in house is not overpriced and marked up.

Ocean Island Inn Backpackers Suites is in a great downtown Victoria location, and almost everything is within walking distance. The building is older, but it is well maintained considering its age and the large number of guests it welcomes. The staff were all friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help. We especially appreciated that our private room included a small fridge, which meant we didn’t have to use the shared refrigerators in the communal kitchen. The kitchen itself is well equipped, with plenty of dishes, mugs, cutlery, cookware, and two sinks with dish soap and sponges so guests can wash their own dishes. Towels are available for a refundable deposit, which is a nice option for travelers. There are also plenty of shared bathrooms, and we never had to wait for one during our stay. A few things to keep in mind: our room didn’t have enough electrical outlets to conveniently charge multiple devices overnight. We also noticed a strong bleach or cleaning product smell at times, which may bother guests who are sensitive to odors. Finally, the area immediately surrounding the hostel has a significant homeless population, so it didn’t feel like the safest block, especially after dark. That said, once we walked a couple of blocks toward the main downtown area—or when we were inside the hostel—we felt comfortable and safe. One of the best parts of staying in a hostel is the opportunity to meet people from all over the world, and Ocean Island Inn was no exception.

Best value for the cost, the room was abit dirty with hairs and the bed was definitely uncomfortable (id recommend bringing some pillows) but other than that I had a good stay. No bed bugs which i was hesitant about, pest control mesures in place, a decent vegetarian breakfast and dinner included and free drinks at the bar. The room was abit warm, but they included a small fan which was definitely a nice touch. The inn itself is in a shady part of central downtown, but excessive security measures and multiple locking gates and doors helped me sleep easy at night. If youre looking for somewhere affordable to crash while exploring the town id recommend staying here, and id definitely stay here again.

This was a first hostel experience for me and I was actually impressed by it all. I did have my own room and fridge and the shared bathroom wasn’t an issue and I never really saw anyone. I slept very well considering i was roadside and never heard anyone in the corridor. The breakfast is decent for being free too. Overall good experience. Helpful staff and and good location

I payed over 100 $/night for a private room with a private bathroom. The receptionist told me there are no towels nor soap in the room and that I had to pay for the soap. I paid for it and found it and towels in the room. Then I had to wait in the line to ask for a refund. They refused to return the money or to give any other compensation even if it was their mistake, not mine. They were arrogant and rude. The receptionist said: "It wasn't me." I said no but it was your colleague and she said she's new. That was their response. The vegan food they serve was made from the cheapest ingredients but it wasn't bad. The free drink was a small glass of a low quality beer. You have to wash your dishes after eating! The location is on the most unpleasant streets of Victoria. All the homeless and addicts live there as well just outside the hostel. There is a window in the room that can be opened from outside.There is an iron gate on the 2nd floor. The hostel has a lot of bed places and all the guests go through that gate. I had a pleasure to listen to it constantly since my room was on the 2nd floor.
