We stayed for one night while visiting a friend in Nara. The lobby is lovely and the staff was friendly. The single public bath in the basement is adequate but not unique and separated for men and women by time as there is only one bath. Of note there is no bathing time for men in the morning. You need to bring your towels from your room to the bath. The two private family baths are lovely, reservations are needed.
The hallways are in great need of refurbishing. The hallway carpet is heavily stained and worn. The painted trim is heavily chipped and dinged. The room was spacious for a Japanese hotel though, while very clean, was also rundown with many dents, dings in the walls and torn paper in the doors with only rudimentary repairs done to the damage. The en suite bathroom was small but adequate. One is expected to pull the bedding from the closet to assemble their own bed on the tatami but the bedding was clean and comfortable. The Wifi was strong and speedy. The AC was very effective on a very hot day. The hotel was a good value as one of the less expensive options in Nara; the family bath added greatly to the value. If only the hallway carpet and damaged trim and walls were attended to it would be an excellent option but as it is one should be prepared for the very poor appearance of the hallway carpet and damaged walls. The view from the window was of a neighboring apartment building (i.e. no view). We did not eat in the hotel so cannot comment.
