This is a beautiful place to stay, it is indeed work out with lots of stairs and heels, but the views are like no other. And it’s not a far walk to the beach so all of the past are worth it to explore.

I would not stay here again. Communication prior to arrival was non existent after multiple attempts through email, WhatsApp, phone calls and IG. The transportation and tour booking help that was promised in their description was therefor not met. Upon arrival I mentioned this and the response from the manager was that yes, this is known issue but there was nothing they could do. This property will undergo major renovations in the fall and it seems they will just coast until then. The room was very very hot, the fan was not sufficient for me to have a good night sleep. Many insects in the room at night as the screens and door seals were not sufficient. It was very loud and disturbing being under another room. I could hear conversations clearly and simply walking around sounded like the ceiling was bout to come down. Unfortunately I didn’t dig deep enough in my searches of reviews but if you look across multiple booking sites and google you’ll find all these same complaints. Hoping this review helps others avoid the same mistake.

If you are driving: there is like an hour and a half drive on unpaved roads varying from relatively smooth to incredibly rough supposedly at other points in the year there are streams that require fording. 4x4 recommended. That being said, once you are there, the views are incredible, the rooms are beautiful, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the location is mind-blowing. The rooms are bungalows set on a very steep hill overlooking the bay. The showers (at least in the one we stayed in) had wall cut outs so at night there were various insect and reptilian visitors but whatever its more their home than mine and few made it into the living area. The restaurants nearby are fine, breakfast is included and dinner is available at the sort of clubhouse with reservation and for a fee. The location and staff and view made up for the steep climb to the room from the beach and long off road drive to the site. I would stay here again absolutely.

What a special place! We arrived in the surf, to be greeted by Dylan and his staff who grabbed our bags and suitcases and brought them up to the room. We then had pineapple smoothies and talked to Dylan, who I produced us to the routines there. You tell them when you want to eat. Eat! It's more like floating in gourmet heaven. The food is out of this world!!! The room was many steps up a rocky staircase, do prepare for earning your heavenly food. The view from the room takes your breath away. Do download the free app Merlin that will help you identify the many birds you will hear and see there. The shower, equipped with shampoo, conditioner and body wash, has two shower heads for a nice couples shower. There is no air conditioning, but the screened "ceiling" openings (really, up on the wall) let in enough air to cool you down sufficiently. We had to turn down the ceiling fan speed in a heat wave to keep from shivering. We will definitely return here again!

We had a great stay! The team is amazing, the food was delicious, and the view from the room was incredible. The hotel location was close to the beach and nearby restaurants. Be prepared for steps though as it's a bit of a walk up to the rooms.

The view from the room overlooking the bay is very nice, but the room has no air conditioning/heat pump so it is hard to enjoy as it is very hot. There also are no screens in the bathroom so every night there are many insects, several of them are quite large. It made for a much less enjoyable stay especially at this price point. At the very least, I would suggest they install screens so that there won’t be as many insects.

The view from the room made my girlfriend cry. That would be enough for the review but Drake Bay Getaway went much further to ensure we had a wonderful stay: Dylan went out of his way to help us resolve some travel mishaps, Lily made some of the best food we had in Costa Rica, and the whole staff did so in the midst hospitable ways. We will definitely return! Thank you!

Our stay at Drake Bay Resort was a truly memorable experience, filled with delightful culinary adventures and breathtaking scenery. The dining options offered were diverse and exquisite—the dinner was particularly memorable, showcasing local flavors that left a lasting impression. Breakfast each morning was equally satisfying, with fresh ingredients that perfectly complemented the beautiful surroundings. We were thrilled with the variety of excursions available, especially the whale-watching tour and horseback riding through the stunning landscapes. These activities allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in the natural beauty of Costa Rica. The property manager was especially accommodating, providing us with everything we needed throughout our stay, including a thoughtful surprise—a delicious birthday cake to help us celebrate my birthday weekend. I must mention that the accommodations are quite unique; our room had no television, which I found refreshing as it encouraged us to disconnect and enjoy our surroundings. However, it's important to bring your hiking boots, as reaching our room involved some hiking, which added to the sense of adventure. The views from our room were nothing short of spectacular, overlooking both the ocean and the lush rainforest. This serene and remote retreat was exactly what my wife and I needed—a peaceful escape from our busy lives. The customer service provided by the management team was outstanding, enhancing our overall experience.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Drake Bay Getaway Lodge. Nestled high in the trees with a spectacular view of Drake Bay, we went to sleep with the sound of the pounding surf and the calls of green-eyed tree frogs and awoke every morning to the sounds of Capuchin monkeys and yellow toucans. Do yourself a favor and have dinner at the hotel as often as you can. Chef Lily is a true artiste both in terms of flavour and presentation. Her passion-fruit creme brulee might be the best dessert I’ve ever had. The entire staff takes great care to ensure an enjoyable stay. We enthusiastically recommend staying here.

Incredible views of the bay and forest from the room- we saw macaws, toucans, and hummingbirds fly around our bungalow everyday. Down at the restaurant, we were also lucky to see iguanas and monkeys. The staff is amazing- Ingris, Andre, Lily, and Darlene. Everyone was so so sweet and hospitable. They take care of booking any activities you’re interested in. I recommend dining at their restaurant for dinner!

Great place to stay and very unique, you will need to walk quite a lot of stairs and the roads require a 4x4 and aren’t the best in parts

Hi This place is great lots of birds at tree level and the his and hers showers are a nice touch. It's quite a walk up to some of the rooms so bear that in mind. The hotel restaurant is good and is also close to another new restaurant on the beach. The breakfast was great and the hosts were good. One the nicer places in drake bay but also slightly expensive, I will also mention the mosquito grills on the vents did let small flies in but I was at the start of the rainy season too. All great though thank you

Drake Bay Getaway is an intimate and elegant resort offering fine dining, family-like hospitality and high end accommodations, all surrounded by jungle filled with wildlife and perched on a hill with commanding views of the Pacific. It is not a Caribbean beach and spa hotel. Rather it provides easy access to a wide range of Costa Rican nature and adventure excursions such as hiking, snorkeling and diving, fishing, wildlife observation and much more. Yens and Patrick are wonderful hosts and personally arrange all your offsite excursions and serve all your meals and beverages. The food is exceedingly tasty and healthy. Beverages made with local ingredients are equally delicious and flow throughout the day. Beaches are available but require a bit of a hike from the resort and you won’t find any of the fine white sand so common in the Carribean. However, if you want to experience Costa Rica in depth and in style, Drake Bay Getaway Resort is the place.

Yens and Patrick, the proprietors of Drake Bay Getaway have created a beautiful oasis that is near paradise. From their warm and generosity upon arrival to the commitment to our comfort and happiness, they were ceaselessly attentive to all our needs. The walk to and from the cabin (Bromeliad) surrounded us with spectacular beauty with lush green and the rich blue ocean surrounding us. The cabins are simple and perfect, with breathtaking views of the ocean from our terrace. A massage arranged by Yens and Patrick by Susana on our terrace was deeply rejuvenating. She has magic hands. And the meals provided by them fit the beauty and tranquility of the surroundings with their simplicity and creativity. We took a nighttime frog/bug tour in the jungle led by Armando and his wife that was exotic and wild. I give the highest recommendation for the luscious beauty and sincerest hospitality of Yens and Patrick and their establishment. The only downside is that I didn’t spend 2 weeks there instead of 2 days!
