We arrived and were politely greeted, just as we had been the last time we stayed, but was then handed a generic note ‘from the manager’ to read. No direct communication from the staff, just here’s a letter, go away and read it. When I got to the room the letter stated that essential works were being carried out and there would be no electric or water the following day from 10:30 to 16:00. I understand maintenance needs to be carried out but I had booked the two rooms over a two night stay, months ago. Plenty of time for prior warning. An email, a call, anything! I needed those rooms to get ready for a specific reason and had I been pre warned about these planned works then I would have stayed in an alternative location. I want to give an option. When we got to our rooms, they were both under standard. Not like the rooms we stayed in before. They were disabled rooms (not that I have a problem with that but surely they should be reserving these rooms for guest that require special facilities and I know the hotel was not particularly busy) Also these rooms cleanliness were well below standard. There were other little things that just made it all worse, no light bulbs in lamps, shower gel dispenser that didn’t work so I had to shower in shampoo, the sink was slow draining so it would fill up quickly and take forever to drain away. Not pleasant experience when brushing your teeth. There were other little niggles that I probably would have ignored had the rest not been dreadful. I have to say the hotel did give a refund but that was a complete hassle as well and probably cost me a fair bit on the phone (they couldn’t do it directly, there’s a surprise). And they also couldn’t validate my car park ticket because the power was off. No warning to do it on check in. More expense. The only saving grace was lovely Luke who was serving at breakfast. Friendly, chatty, helpful and couldn’t do enough for everyone. But as amazing as Luke was, I will not be returning to Hampton. There are too many other hotels close by that I’m sure will do a better job. Way too much competition to be providing such a poor standard of accommodation and service.
