Since I had to visit the Victoria Memorial Hall, I wanted a hotel close to this museum and I wanted a budget hotel. I found Malik Guest House the best choice. It is looks more like an apartment block rather than a hotel. The Harish Mukherjee road is busy all day and night, traffic, people and shops...I was staying on the fifth floor and once you go up to your room, it is quiet and serene out there. The hotel staff are helpful and the service is quick. I was happy to spend a couple of days there. I wouldn't mind going back there again.

It was a good experience. Everything was nice. Food choice was limited. Centrally located. Best budget stay.

We stayed for three nights in a Superior (guffaw!) Double Room. It, and the bathroom especially, had clearly not been cleaned for some time, although its two cockroaches were in their element, until we killed them. On the plus side, the room was large and bed/linen clean and comfortable, even if we had to make a special request for a top sheet. Neither the advertised Daily Housekeeping nor Bottled Water ever materialised despite repeated requests, though the Newspaper did. Avoid. This is a hotel for locals, not fussy Westerners.

Room felt a bit expensive for the quality, but very friendly service. I couldn't get hot water to work late my first night and when I asked the next day it turned out the water heater was being replaced. They happily allowed me to switch rooms. Would have been nice if wifi was available in the rooms but at least it was accessible and working fine near the reception.

A budget accommodation in a central location of Kolkata with neat and clean surroundings. For early morning tea, one will have to go outside, as there is no in house all time tea facility. Also only care it requires to reach the Guest House is 'one way after 1 PM' of the Harish Mukherjee Road and Metro rail availability within the walk-able distance. However, one can stay the Guest House with other requisite comfort in Indian style.
