Nice old-style bed and restaurant hotel with a lovely staff that was very detail oriented during check-in. Felt very at home in the pub area and during meals. Bedding was quite comfortable and peaceful. You will hear guests walking about the stairs and over your room with the older wooden build, but it was part of the charm in a way. Dinner was very good and the morning breakfast spread is typical European flair and filled us up for the day. Views of the mountainside were wonderful, TV selections vary in many different languages if you get stuck inside for a bit. Small grocery store across the street and the Post Bus heading to Stans or Seelisberg picks up right in front of the hotel. Very convenient for hikers or if you want to take one of the few cable cars up the mountains.

Our only issue with the room was because there wasnt any airconditioning so it needed a fan, as it was very warm.

Beautiful surroundings, and the breakfast was very good. We arrived late and ate dinner at the restaurant inside the hotel. The atmosphere was wonderful.

We stayed here on our way to Basel for New Years and it was a quaint little hotel near a skiing hotspot. The fog in the area was quite thick so we unfortunately couldn’t take in the beauty of the area. The breakfast was rather limited compared to other places we stayed and parking was across the street in a shopping plaza lot but close enough not to be inconvenient. There were only a couple of restaurants that were open nearby and most people were in town for the skiing. Sad we couldn’t take one of the cable cars up the mountain in the morning, but we literally couldn’t see anything more than 10 feet in front of us. The price was more reasonable than hotels directly in Lucerne which was fine for us since we weren’t there to ski, only a pit stop on our way north to Basel. We did stop in Old Town Lucerne the next day and enjoyed lunch in a delightful cafe!

We stayed in Hotel Engel on the way back from a month in Italy. It was the perfect distance from Lake Garda, allowing us some leeway on getting through the Gotthard tunnel. The drive up the mountain to reach it was stunning, with beautiful views over Lake Lucerne via numerous hairpin bends. When we arrived in the village, it was extremely busy, with a market going on opposite the hotel. However, we were soon pointed in the direction of Reception and checked in by the manager, who spoke excellent English. Our room was on the first floor, with a lovely view of mountains and one of the four cable cars in the village from the spacious shared patio. Parking had been tricky earlier, but once the market finished we were able to get into the hotel car park. We ate in the restaurant, which was extremely busy with several private events, as well as guests, so staff were very busy. We chose the set menu of asparagus soup, Cordon Bleu and very boozy sorbet. All was delicious, though service a little haphazard due to the number of customers. Our room was quiet and comfortable, very clean, though so warm we had to leave the door open onto the patio. Breakfast was a buffet, but included fresh fruit, Bircher muesli, eggs, cereals and pastries, with excellent coffee. All was great value, with very friendly staff in a stunning setting. We would love to return next time we visit Switzerland.

The rooms are tiny but clean without a tea kettle, coffee or any other extras in the room at all. There is soap/shampoo for the shower and bathroom (no conditioner). Bed is comfortable and as others have said the sound of church bells ring loudly and often. Like most places in Switzerland, the room has no AC, so you have to leave the window open. We brought small USB fans which I highly recommend if you travel to Switzerland in the summer. Parking is across the street behind the grocery store which the hotel does validate. Breakfast was ok (Breads, meat/cheese tray, boiled eggs, fruit, yogurt and cereals) but as like every other place in Switzerland, the flies were an issue due to all the windows/doors being open. It would be good if there was a little better protection from the flies while serving a buffet. We had to swat with one hand and eat with the other and try not to get any food that we saw a fly land on. Make sure to ask for the local discount card which saved a small percentage at a few of things we did in the area.

Very nice hotel, helpful staff, dog friendly, good location, facilities in village and great views, (+ easy access off autoroute). Breakfast & evening meal very good. Room good size. Lift access. Can't fault this hotel. So is there a negative? Only one, the chirch nearby has a clock thst chimes the hours and the quarters if that's not enough it also rings all the bells at 05.00! So if you are a light sleeper and like to sleep with the window open a bit, just bear this in mind

I needed somewhere to stay during a journey and chose this hotel. It’s just off the motorway but far enough away to make you feel that you’re a million miles away. Lovely little town that’s a ski resort in the winter. Hotel is in the middle with plenty of parking next to it. The staff are absolutely excellent and can’t do enough to make you feel at home. The rooms are spacious and very modern and super clean. I had food in the restaurant and it’s the kind of food that you would travel to - to eat! I would most definitely recommend this hotel.

Lovely hotel in delightful Swiss village room was excellent but no faclities for making tea or coffee. Very nice continental breakfast. One major problem could not pay by credit/debit card which meant paying in Euro's which left a dent in our cash flow. Not acceptable in this day & age especially as booking site states all cards taken !!!
