Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. We appreciated the option to have our room cleaned at our own chosen schedule. Really good buffet breakfast and dinner included. Interesting history as a former prison facility, now very nicely converted to a comfortable hotel. Convenient location, just a short walk to the ferry terminal if you are taking a side trip to Tallinn or other cities), and not too far from the city center; about a mile to the railroad station.

Food and service around food was excellent. Room very good size but lacking drawers and storage. Nightdress taken when beds changed. Relative lack of concern or care about this. After one week, still not found.

Is it strange to say a stay in a former prison was comfortable and convenient? This hotel is a gem. Very helpful and friendly staff. Easy to find, very walkable and steps to public transport. The option to enjoy daily Fika and a nightly meal on site were a nice touch.

A great location for anybody visiting the city as a tourist. The tram stop at the entrance brings you to the centre (but it's a easy 10 min walk) and also will bring you to the ferry terminal, the main train station to change for the airport. Staff were friendly, room was very comfortable, high quality linens and bed, very quiet at night (built in soundproofing due to being an old building). Breakfast and dinner was included and it was great and good value too. Would certainly stay again.

The history of the hotel was interesting and the staff served us well. It was also fascinating to learn more about the building’s past as a former prison. We had booked a room with a bathtub, but unfortunately, the pop-up drain plug didn’t work properly and got stuck. The staff offered us another room, but changing rooms in the evening with small children is not easy. We were refunded the extra fee for the bathtub, but it still affected our experience since we couldn’t use it at all. The hotel is definitely worth visiting, but I hope they ensure that everything works as expected in the future.

An Unforgettable Stay in a Unique Hotel This hotel is truly exceptional! Housed in a former prison, it has managed to preserve its original spirit while transforming into a cozy and welcoming place. The rooms are arranged in an unusual and creative way, which adds to the charm and makes the stay even more memorable. The breakfast was absolutely delicious, with a wide variety of fresh and flavorful options. Dinner is also available, and it’s just as impressive. Despite the building’s history, the atmosphere is warm and homely — you feel completely at ease from the moment you arrive. Highly recommended for anyone looking for something different and full of character!

Home hotel Katajanokka was a great find in Helsinki. It was a very interesting hotel because of its history as a former prison but it has been given modern rooms and communal areas so it is now a stylish place to stay. Breakfast was excellent in quality and choice every day and the light evening meal we also had once and that was good too. The hotel is just a 10min walk into the centre of Helsinki, with the marina even closer. I would not hesitate to stay here again if I return to Finland.

Very interesting property that is well presented. We were grateful that our ground floor request was provided. The property does have a lift so if your mobility is restricted it should not be a problem. Breakfast and dinner were very nice. Well presented. The tram is right outside. Staff friendly and very helpful. Location is a bit out of the central area but not a problem with the tram

Great hotel and staff. The breakfast and dinner were included in the price. Took the stress off of looking for a place to eat every night. Right on team line. But, everything in walking distance.

Lovely hotel, don’t actually know it used to be a prison. It’s been renovated so well. Spacious rooms, comfortable beds, lovey to have a bath as well as a shower in the bathroom. Delicious buffet breakfasts and dinner included. Only issue was that we felt the rooms should have been given a clean every day. However, really enjoyed our stay.

The hotel is located in Katajanokka ,a great part of Helsinki. The tram is outside the hotel wall. Short walk to the harbor and cruise ship The Viking Line. The hotel itself is a historical site . A refurbished prison . It was our first time staying there but we have family who stayed there few times few years ago. It has claustrophobic feel at the small lobby and in the guest rooms because the windows are high and small can’t be reached or opened. Our room had a very small low window. The breakfast and dinner area was extremely dark . Literally being in a prison.

Loved the building’s history. Unmistakably a former prison but amazingly transformed whilst retaining the original character. One slight negative are the dining facilities. Confusing layout and chaotically crowded at times.

The location was on an island and only a 20 minute walk to the city center. Great location, however, the room was very hot and we were not allowed to open the windows. Breakfast, a light snack between 3-5 pm is served, plus dinner is included. That is served between 6-8 every night. The breakfast was the best part.
