The staff were so lovely and the hotel had lots of little nice touches that made it a pleasure to stay at. Dogo onsen was next door and the hotel provided towels and yukata to take. The room was quiet and peaceful. I didn’t dine at the hotel but enjoyed the free sake bar and there were lots of options for food nearby.

Excellent. Right behind Dogo Onsen. Friendly staff. Great atmosphere, best hotel I stayed at. Restaurants a little pricey though.

I felt that the Yamato Ryokan is

The place exceeded expectations from the very beginning where you are greeted at the front entrance. The lobby is large with many tables and seats while waiting for the checkin process. The tatami room was clean and large with a great view of the mountain and Sakura trees. Before dinner a short walk down the hill takes you to Dogo Onsen and small shops. The Totoro shop was a fun place to visit. Then eating a small mochi stick with green tea added to the experience. There were many other snack shops but had to hold back to prepare for the big kaiseki dinner. The kaiseki dinner was beyond spectacular with intricate dish designs and wonderful taste. The Noh play during the meal added to the pleasant dining atmosphere. The Onsen was compact with both indoor and outdoor baths with reasonable temperature of around 43C. There was a small wooden bucket for washing was a nice touch instead of plastic buckets which is common at other places. Overall, this was the best ryokan I have stayed at. Highly recommended.

Good onsen

There was nothing we didn’t like. It was a very pleasant stay with a very professional and friendly staff. Next time we want to stay longer.

An excellent location for staying in the Matsuyama Dogo Onsen area, the Yamatoya Honten is an older but very well-kept hotel with a very wide range of amenities at an affordable price. I was very surprised to find my room featured a massage chair! The public bath here receives its onsen water from the same source as the Dogo Onsen building itself and offers complimentary snacks and drinks after bathing. Breakfast came with either an option for traditional Japanese or Western, and was excellent.

The hotel is 3min walk to the Dogo Onsen & shopping street. All hotel buildings around this area are very well maintained & hence give a very clean & green feeling to all visitors.

露天風呂への出入り口の引き戸を、クローザー仕様にしてはいかがでしょうか。きちんと閉め切らないお客様がおられ、内風呂に外気が入り寒い思いをしましたので。みかん蛇口や駄菓子バーなど他所にない工夫が凝らされていてとても良かったです。細かいところまで清掃が行き届き、備品類はこまめに整理整頓され、全体的に清潔感が高い印象です。

全てにおいて大変満足した。個室お食事どころでの夕食は本当に素晴らしかったです。
