the place was clean the breakfast was ample the host was friendly there are three rooms - 2 upstairs and 1 downstairs - and if you are of a certain age and need an afternoon nap you should not be downstairs. On both days there were people in the living room and even the little noise they made was disturbing because of paper-thin walls. So if you need naps and privacy ask for upstairs.

The owner (bushi) of the guesthouse was such an amazing and kind person. He gave a tour around Kamakura and made delicious breakfast for me and my husband. I was a bit nervous since it was my first time staying at a guest house but it became a precious memory.

This is one of the best experiences I've ever had staying somewher, Our host Bushi was extremely friendly, and made our visit one to remember, we learnt alot about the area and about Kamukuras origin, I highly recommend adding the breakfast option to your stay as it was delicious, I'd give 6 stars if I could

Bushi-san was the best host. He makes the whole experience and even speaks very good English. We experienced a tsunami warning and had to cancel our flight back home. Bushi allowed us to stay another night. He was very good with the kids. He made lots of jokes, let kids try out the samurai weapons and armor, and even made shaved ice with our kids. Bushi-san makes this B&B a lively and exciting experience. The property itself is outdated with lots of random knick knacks. The futons were a little too flat and uncomfortable —feels like camping. There is a shared bathroom with all the guests. However, the people we encountered were all lovely and we clicked with them. My children had fun interacting with another family with children. I wouldn’t trade my experience with a hotel experience, which tend to be cold and impersonal. I highly recommend Bushi-san’s property for a one-of-a-kind Japan experience.

Guesthouse Irodori was very interesting, and I'm happy me and my 88 year old, Japanese-born mother stayed here. At first thought, one would think it very strange that an Japanese/American Grandma and her 64 y.o. American daughter would stay at a "Minshuku" type of house. But, we had made last minute plans to travel to Tokyo for 1 month to visit a family member having surgery. We stayed two nights in Kamakura to look at real estate and visit a friend in the area. This was great for us and allowed us to do what we needed with a local place to sleep at night. Our Samurai host, Bushi-san, and his small staff are kind and wonderfully warm people. We loved meeting the much-younger travelers from the US and China and Spain and enjoyed sharing dinner with them for those two nights. Out of our month-long trip to Japan, we accomplished our mission during our 2 days in Kamakura and then moved on to stay with relatives around Tokyo and Odawara. My only small/minor issue was the lighting in our room was not very bright, and our room was right next to the dining area where guests gathered to talk and enjoy themselves for a small party on our first night. That said, we were so tired that the noise ultimately didn't matter. I recommend Guesthouse Irodori for anyone who is open to meeting other travelers from different parts of the world. The location is within walking distance of the train station, and one can also walk about 15-20 minutes through the residential area to see the beach.

I never stayed at this place. The host sent me an email asking me to cancel my booking as he booked to someone else.

A great location to explore the local sights, the beach and within walking distance of the train station. This typical Japanese home was a delight and I had a great time here. The owners are wonderful. Thank you.

One thing I like most was the owner and staff warm hospitality, kindness and good English conversation . The breakfast served was Japanese food which was a healthy meal and the price of staying is affordable compared to other places. I highly recommend this place.

Not as advertised. No locks on door, guy didn’t check our passports, flimsy windows and doors, noisy, beds hard and definitely not comfortable. It was awkward walking into a personal dinner party with our gear and he was not even aware we arriving

Love the Japanese guest house simplicity. Our host’s name is Bushi who wears a samurai outfit all day long. He offers tours of the city and also works with handicapped people. Amazing gentleman and a super host!

Bushi was amazing!! he was extremely welcoming, very friendly and cooked some amazing traditional breakfast each morning. As well, the atmosphere of the guest house was extremely relaxed and easy-going. He was conveniently located to shops, restaurants, tourist, attractions, and getting around is quite easy. If we ever come to Kamakura again staying at the guest house will be an obvious place to stay.

I love staying in more traditional lodging when visiting Japan, and Irodori was what I was looking for. The host, Bushi, is a kind genuine person with a passion for his town and community and the sincerity and generosity of his character made my time in Kamakura much better, so thank you Bushi. The upstairs room was small and cozy, the space in the guesthouse can be narrow and cluttered, so if you are used to large hotels this is not it. I met very fun/kind travelers there, especially while enjoying breakfast with them in the morning. If you can, I absolutely recommend you staying here.

My biggest regret booking here is that I only booked one night! This place is wonderful in many many ways: It's located very close to Kamakura Station, easy to find, easily accessible, and affordable! The best thing about this place isn't what you'd find in a standard hotel: This feels like a home. The decor and architecture of the home have a wonderful charm and history to them, and they're all wonderfully maintained by the owners. Every other hotel I've stayed in feels cold and impersonal, but Guesthouse Irodori feels like someone cares and cherishes the space. The owners are wonderful, too! I only briefly got to meet Bushi-san, but when we arrived he had just finished making mochi with some kids from the community. Megumi-san prepared an absolutely delicious breakfast that we got to enjoy over good conversation with other patrons. They took our bags in before check-in at no extra cost, and they were incredibly friendly in every interaction. If I had to make any complaint, it's that the futons/pillows were a little thin. Even so, I'm sure if I had said anything, they would've made accomodations. There were lots of things in the house to accommodate folks with disabilities, which I really respect and appreciate. If you're thinking about going to Kamakura, go! If you're going to Kamakura, stay here! Stay for more than one night! It's more than a place to sleep for a night, it's a lovely experience all together!
