It was a privilege to stay in the old town next to the castle in Gjirokaster. High above the modern city, next to castle and the old bazaar, it was not only convenient but an experience of a life from another time. Ever wonder what it’s like living way up on the hill in the castle? Last night residing in the old town, adjoining the castle, was that experience. Too high for any city lights to penetrate, it was dark skies. Only the stars and a sliver of the moon. No sound. Not traffic, horns or music. Treeless and without birds. Silence. Peace. This morning the roosters were even a far off event. Dogs a muffled little hum. Bliss. Highly recommended.

We loved it so much we decided to stay a second night. Very comfortable and clean rooms. Great hospitality and it is a family owned and run guesthouse. The grandmothers made an amazing breakfast that consists of tea, coffee, fried eggs, delicious bread, cucumbers, tomatoes, olives, cheese, butter, and fig jam. Location was good, a lovely walk to the castle. I could see myself spending a week here.

I booked this property because of all the excellent reviews. I was not disappointed. A small run family guest house. It only has 5 rooms. I stayed 3 nights and was the only guest. A little way out, but very walkable. So peaceful. No barking dogs at night. My breakfast was a huge spread and could have feed 4 people. Really enjoyed my stay and would definitely stay again. Only one small negative, was the shower had a curtain. I hate them, as they get in the way. Loads of piping hot water. Very clean room and comfy bed.

Great room for the price with accommodating hosts right near the heart of the city. Could do with curtains or blinds as gets very bright in the morning due to sun direction, and also a shower curtain. Plumbing in upstairs bathroom is a bit weird also, and requires toilet flushes to operate the sink. Overall, I would stay here again. Wonderful setting for a hotel and the hosts made it.

Only stayed 1 night, but very much enjoyed it, clean, safe, good value for money

There was no hot water in the morning, so not possible to shower before leaving. Very disappointing. It was otherwise fine, but the water issue was not good.

Had such a great stay at the Denis Guest House. The hosts were fantastic, as was the location. They made us so welcome. I hope to return!

Very nice room and facilities, nice hosts. The location is a bit hard to get to, but is still good considering the castle and old town are quite close.

Denis and aurora were fantastic, fed me very well, and let me come and go as I pleased. The views are amazing and a 2 minutes walk to an ancient castle. What more do you want?

De accommodatie is wat moeilijk te vinden. Na contact zijn we echter super geholpen. Ik raad dan ook aan om van te voren wat af te spreken. Personeel is super lief, ontbijt is heel uitgebreid en lekker. Kamers zijn prima, geen klachten over. Locatie is ook goed. Binnen een minuut of 3 ben je in het oude centrum.
