The Upper House is in an idyllic setting, the outdoor space is beautiful, with plenty of parking. The property is traditional with some lovely features but could do with some updating, especially in the bedrooms. The gentleman on reception was lovely and really helpful, the rest of the staff were young and quite inexperienced and were in need of a mature experienced Manager to guide them. The restaurant food on the evening was of a good quality and well presented, the restaurant itself would benefit from updating and a thorough clean. The bedrooms were tired and unfortunately quite dusty. With a period property there are more areas to gather dust such as chandeliers, intricate wall sconces and decorations. The bed was old and creaky when you turned over in the night. The bathroom had been updated but unfortunately the sink had been fitted with a tap which would work well in a bath, but the water came out at an angle that missed the sink altogether if turned on fully. The cleaning of the bathroom was not thorough and there were some questionable stains in the hinge of the toilet seat and behind the toilet seat. The base bed sheet had a stain on it. The breakfast was well presented and enjoyable, however we were charged for my poached eggs on toast as they were not a menu item! I should’ve ordered the eggs Benedict without the hollandaise! Overall we had a very pleasant stay, and with some staff training and a thorough clean would return and recommend to others.

This is a charming country house and everyone was amazing. We enjoyed a walk around the property and the food was spot on. You can’t go wrong staying here if in the neighborhood. If you’re also familiar wrote ceramics, you’ll find several ships about 10-15 mins away that is a great place to browse and shop.

Beautiful setting, very helpful staff. Lovely room. Great location. Slight downside was our room was over the function suite, but the noise stopped by midnight, and we had a great nights sleep after. Plenty of choice for breakfast, and freshly prepared to order. Only 15 minutes to our gig in Stoke, but beautiful rural location, with pretty gardens to enjoy

The property itself was lovely. However, during my two day stay, the water temperature in my room's en suite bathroom was cold, and then tepid, both for the basin and shower. The shower water pressure was also very poor. Finally, I had early starts on both mornings, and the fire alarm went off in my bedroom due to "steam" from the bathroom. I could not switch it off, and it was extremely embarrassing early on a Sunday morning. Staff nice, parking good, but a disappointing stay due to the lack of hot water.

We had a comfortable stay at Upper House and slept well. Breakfast was enjoyable, and we also had dinner during our visit, the food was lovely and a real highlight. However, the room cleanliness was fairly basic and could be improved. The staff were polite but didn’t come across as particularly warm or welcoming. The property itself feels quite dated and would benefit from modernisation, as it seems to have remained largely unchanged for many years. It’s also worth noting that the venue hosts weddings, which means you can sometimes feel like you’re part of the event as a guest. While we were fortunate to stay on the opposite side this time, rooms closer to the celebrations, especially those above could experience noise that may affect sleep.

Stayed here as an overnight stop after visiting friends in Market Drayton, very impressed, every aspect of our stay was perfect. Our room had been recently redecorated and was in pristine condition, good and comfortable bed, bathroom a little on the small side but perfectly fine. Nice, quiet countryside location, set in lovely grounds in a historic house in which Garibaldi stayed during his visit to Britain. Evening meal was very good, prices very reasonable; breakfast was lovely, excellent coffee. Staff all very pleasant and approachable, also made friends with the two resident cats who were adorable.

The room was very clean , staff were very friendly. Only disappointment was total lack of drawers and very little wardrobe space. Geared more to 1-2 night stays and we were there for 6. Great food and really lovely setting
