Mere and the whole team were super helpful, friendly and made it a very nice place to stay. The food is excellent with views of the sunset and the ocean. Very easy access to the beach where you can snorkel, grab a coffee or some more food. Recommend using their local knowledge to book excursions such as scuba diving or trips around the island. Look forward to returning one day!

A friendly small resort with the most stunning views. A short walk down to a fabulous beach where you can snorkel. The food was plentiful and divine. There is no air conditioning but that was manageable with fans and good ventilation. There are only a few bungalows which makes it intimate. Everyone was super friendly and helpful.

So welcoming, friendly - they just made everything easy. Great vibes with a beautiful space and attentive staff, but still felt relaxed and authentic and not sterile like a resort. Beautiful grounds, and small, so very peaceful and private. There is great snorkelling right across the road if you go at high tide.

🌺 Magical Stay at Makaira Resort – A Slice of Paradise! My time at Makaira Resort in Taveuni was nothing short of incredible. The views, the peace, the warm hospitality—this place is a true hidden gem. A special shoutout to Mary, whose massage was beyond amazing. One of the best I’ve ever had—deeply relaxing, soulful, and set against the soothing sounds of the ocean. She truly has healing hands! If you’re looking to unwind and reconnect with nature (and yourself), Makaira is the place to be. Can’t wait to return. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We stayed 4 nights in Grand suite- cottage contains two double beds with two separate bathrooms and living/kitchen area. It has wonderful views. Snorkelling is just 3 mins from the beach, but only in high-mid tide conditions. Reef is very nice. Staff is very friendly. Mary has organised our land tours (Lavena coastal walk and waterfalls in Bouma National park- don't miss them and take a guide for coastal walk as we got a bit lost) as we did our water-based activities previously in dive resort. Food was the best on this island- both breakfasts and the dinners cooked by Mary. We strongly recommend to use this option for a dinner. Two small things are to mention: no dark blinds/curtains in the rooms, so it is quite bright to sleep after sunrise and the tea pot and pots for cooking are huge (it would be good to have a small cooking pot). On weekend, it was a loud music from the restaurant below on the beach, but finished around 11pm. Overall, we enjoyed our stay tremendously.

The resort is great and the host is beyond excellent. They take care of everything for you and they ensure that you have a good stay. BEWARE! The worst thing about my stay was my interactions with the tour guide they had at the resort named Varun, of 'Wings & Fins Tours'. This person is a conman who will lie to you, overcharge you, and take your hard earned money. Varun(aka Baba) is known to lie to and overcharge couples and guests, sometimes causing them to cry. I've heard stories about him during my stay all with the same ending. I wish I had been warned about him before he got to me. He is known by the locals as a conman. If you want to enjoy your time in Taveuni, avoid this conman.

This is a small resort, with only 4 guest cottages (which they call bures), so there's a lot of privacy. There are expansive views of the ocean, including sunsets. The staff is very friendly, with a wonderful sense of humor, and we shared a lot of laughs. Our bure was cleaned every day. The dinners in their restaurant were delicious, with generous portions. Breakfast was included every morning, and activities were arranged for us.

The positives – peaceful perch on a steep hill above calm waters and perhaps ideal for avid snorkelers and divers, a lovely staff always wearing a smile, lots of space in the villa to spread out, and awesome banana pancakes. But, based on the Expedia listing, our expectations exceeded the reality. The amenities listed for this 4-unit bed & breakfast makes it sound luxurious with 3 pools, direct access to the beach, a restaurant with international cuisine and a spa. The reality: a plunge pool about the size of an oversized bathtub adjacent to 3 of the 4 villas. The pools aren’t very private and are not fenced, so a local German Shepard mutt used ours multiple times to cool off – we didn’t. To get to the narrow strip of sandy beach, you need to walk down a steep hill, on a little road, then walk a bit along the main road to find a break in the trees or steps down to the beach, which disappears during high tide, so check your tide charts. The “restaurant” is the breakfast room and only serves dinner (one option when we were there) when Mary is available to make it, and you ask for it, and there’s no alcohol available to order with you meal. We arrived on a Saturday late afternoon, and she wasn’t cooking that night, so the only nearby options were two bar/cafes along the main road, which are close but bring a flashlight for the return, since there are no lights on the little road, nor on the property. And, BTW, there isn’t a spa either, just someone who can come to your villa for

We loved our stay here. Great view, amazing breakfast every morning (we're talking fresh fruit, coffee, juice, freshly baked muffins, homemade pineapple jam, toast, pancakes, homemade pineapple syrup!!), and super friendly staff. Every want and need we had was met with a smile from the staff. Cherry on top was the massages. Rooms are huge, clean, and have great views. Taveuni was our favorite island while exploring fiji, and we will be sure to be back :)
