Room was small, basic but clean and had a great view over the river. There were no facilities here, they were in the sister hotel next door.

While the room was clean, neat and comfortable, the bathroom could use some improvement as there was mold in the shower and the bidet was missing a nozzle.

Very old hotel. No parking on arrival was directed to park a large BMW on a ravine edge by the receptionist. This hotel is not a 3 star it a 1 star, it’s a con as they share a reception with the Museo Hotel next door which is a 3 star. Also be prepared to be kept awake till 2am by thumping music from the rooftop bar.

The hotel room is much older than the posted pictures. Room was very hot and the AC was very weak, took 10hr to cool off the room enough to sleep. In the evening, ants covered the room's table. Poor night of sleep due to hot room and ants.

Clean & quiet. Palm Sunday complicated matters with most restaurants closed in town. Kiosk operated by hotel adequate for meal but very basic.

Good location but old hotel. Bathroom smells like sewer and the television was not in good working order. Was ok for a 1 night stay en route to Porto

This hotel shares management and facilities (e.g. pool) with the Hotel Museu next door. Between the two is a bar area. We discovered that if you stay at the Museu you can put bar drinks on your bill, but if you are staying in the Beira Rio you have to pay at the bar. The pool and pool area were not crowded when we were there. Our room on the ground floor was adequate for a couple of nights. The view over the River Guadiana was good and the evening river trip (20euro pp) up and down the river was a nice excursion. The church/castle/archealogical dig at the top of the hill makes an excellent visit. Most restaurants are near the roundabout coming into Mertola so a little bit of a walk.

Great small village. Hotel is ok but was bit disappointed with the size of pool. In the photo it looked bigger. However the river is at walking distance which offers some water activities to do and for a dip.

Beautiful little hotel shared with the Museu hotel. We had a side balcony overlooking the river, pool and terrace. Room was clean and beds were comfortable. Staff were lovely and helpful. The location was perfect for exploring the town. I would totally recommend this hotel.

Wonderful location with view over river and at base of steps up to the town and castle. Balcony the size of a small apartment. Comfortable bed. Shame a fridge isn’t supplied as, even in April, the temperature is in the thirties. Lovely to buy food from the hotel snack bar and eat on balcony watching the house martins dive and glide!

brilliant spot for a birding break, good value, great breakfasts, close to castle and old town. Only snag was lack of heating and a dodgy wardrobe door. No restaurant which meant limited options out of season. Watching the 40+ Azure winged magpies come to roost every evening made up for anything else!

We visited Mertola in late February, not prime tourist season but was still busy with tourists. Our overall impression, based on some of the local proprietors we encountered, those with us foreigners with limited Portuguese language skills should perhaps visit elsewhere. The hotel itself was very clean but basic (amazing water pressure in the shower though!). Big thanks shout out to the woman who runs the patio/bar snack bar at the Rio Biero and Hotel Museu. It was a Saturday night and it appeared most, if not all restaurants in the village were closed for dinner that night. She went out of her way to discreetly make us something to eat that evening!
