You will have a hard time communicating with the owner in English. English is my second language; my native language is completely unrelated to English. However, when you advertise your business online, you have a duty to your customers to communicate in a standard or universal language. Hotels.com is an international platform with international customers.
We arrived in Banska Stiavnica at around 5 pm. I parked curbside while my wife and kids tried to check in first but there was no one there. While at the front desk, my wife called the listed number three times but no one answered. So, we went around town to take pictures. My wife called again but there was no answer. She left a text message too but it wasn't until 7:15 pm that he called back to let us know that he's back.
There was no parking nearby so my wife and kids did all the checking in. After 10 mins., my wife called so the owner can explain where to park. The lot was about a 7 minute walk away and not very convenient when carrying some bags. The owner negotiated a price and walked with me back to the hotel. When we got there, he explained in hand gestures which keys opened what. When I asked for a local tourist location, he couldn't explain so he called a person who spoke English. The guy was not helpful either so I just gave up. The owner was gesturing us to hurry up because he needed to sleep. Interestingly, other businesses downtown spoke English, including the hotels across the street.
