Perfect location in Gion, easy walking distance to convenient bus stops and subway stops, as well as many restaurants/shops. The Shirakawa river was so relaxing to watch. From our room, we could see cranes, turtles and large fish! Excellent decor with art and beautiful lighting, incredibly spacious (3 stories, all with full bath) with nice amenities (coffee/tea, pajamas/robe, umbrellas, laundry!, rooftop deck) and all rooms/floors had separate lockable entry code. I had only minor quibbles about the condition of the townhouse-style room (bedside power outlet not working on first floor, a pair of tattered pajamas). Main complaint was the communication - did not receive any direct communication from establishment until 27 hours prior to check-in, which made me nervous at the time, since my expectation was to receive the access code earlier. I also tried to text/email the night before checkout (to ask for a later checkout time of 11:00 AM), but they never got back to me. When I did call the next morning at 9:00 AM, I was able to talk with someone immediately, however. If you do not do well with stairs, do not book this place! For everyone else who doesn't need a front desk for easy help, this place is a solid value for an amazing location.

super location, sit right by the magical Shirakawa river. There is no services/reception counter at Shikinean hotel, everything is automatic, you receive the main door pass code before check in, also entry code for 3 different bedrooms. all went neat and easy. 3 rooms on each floor are of different design and display of arts. beds are comfy, we slept well every night. nearby the hotel are endless restaurant choices, subway station is less then 10 mins away and there is a small local shopping street if you walk along the Shirakawa to Higashiyama. everything is wonderful here. will certainly come back again.

Nice place to stay, but beware. It’s not a hotel, or an inn, not even a B&B. There is NOBODY around. It’s 3 rooms stacked on one another beside a pleasant stream. The amenities, the bed, the bathroom are excellent. The top 2 floor rooms are only accessible by a steep stairs. Every taxi we hired in Kyoto could not find this place. It’s on a quiet street in Gion with a tightly packed, but pleasant neighborhood with many good restaurant choices. This is a good choice in Gion...but beware.

Gorgeous property. Gion is hands down my favorite area ive seen. Been in japan for 2 weeks. Only small issue with some dead bugs and small flies in restroom. Other than that, this place was amazing. Super high tech too. I loved it. Would do gion and stay here again.

spent 5 days, great accommodations , HOWEVER, no mention of 3 floor walk up and i have very bad knees. it was terrible. i would have definitely requested the 1st floor room. also, didn't know where to deposit trash and after 5 days, 3 people it would have been nice to empty and never saw a person to ask. the room and location are great and i would recommend .

This room was so absolutely beautiful and cozy. In many reviews, people say that no one is there but no one is necessary. Check-in is so easy. The place feels completely safe. And the shower room was wonderful. The location is right in the heart but a little away from the hoards. It is a little bit of a splurge but you definitely get what you pay for. We saved it for our last night and enjoyed every minute. It was perfect for a couple.

At first glance the place is impeccable and once all the lights are on the place shines even more. The bath and amenities were great, coffee and tea etc. all nice. The seating area by the window is nice especially if you have the ducks swimming around. They supplied everything we needed, nice towels and robes etc. hair dryer for my partner, mirror and seats etc. all nice shiseido items. Controls for lighting by the bed. Chargers for phones and laptops etc supplied too. Tv. The location of the place is amazing If you want to stay in Gion as it’s close by so many great places. It’s Japan so you should be trying to get by. Not complaining about walking. Not complaining about no English menu. Be more adventurous trying new different and strange places and getting out of your comfort zone. It’s good to look up a little about some things before travelling to any new place. Don’t walk and eat unless it’s that type of place. Don’t litter. At all. Yes, carry your rubbish till you find a bin. It’s best to have a strap bag. I am rushing this a little as I’m about to go out for dinner and drinks in Osaka now. Over all yes I will give this two thumbs up and 5 stars and recommend it to people I know. As I don’t want it to get too busy for when I come back.

1. Quick and easy check-in/check-out : The manager will send you a check-in information including passcode to the front gate and your room. Very easy to access. For the check-out, just leave the tourist tax in the bag in your room and leave! 2. Amenities : First of all, room is very clean and organized. Amenities? to say with a bit of exaggeration, you come naked and there will be your PJ and bathrobe that you can wear. 3. Room decor : It was a beautiful room with various artworks and the lake right next to the main window <3<3

This property was new to Travelocity, and we took a chance on it. It was much better than we expected. It is a B&B type home (without the breakfast), and we had stayed in the western style suite on the second floor. The decor was amazing, the private shower/bath was first class, and the beds super comfy. It also had a stocked fridge with some light snacks and coffee/tea. The location was outstanding, on a quaint side street next to a bridge and gentle river - But only steps away from everything. Shrines, shopping, dining, trains all within easy walking distance. It was the perfect home for our short trip to Kyoto. First class accommodations, at a great value.
