Bit scruffy but comfortable room and couldn't ask for a more helpful and friendly receptionist. We were on the ground floor (our request) and it was surprisingly quiet.

Needed somewhere to stay over night after a theatre show that was reasonably priced and easy to get to. Booked in at about 3:30pm nice and easy. Clean room, small shower area with wc and tiny basin. Tea making and coffee available. tv wifi and phone. Open to return when wanted with night access. plenty availablwchoice at breakfast. Good value for money in central London. I have stayed in much worse and more expensive in my time but it's not the Ritz!

Small rooms, close to the station - perfect for just getting a decent nights sleep. Hotel staff couldn't be friendlier

Simple city hotel. Well managed. Room cleaned and refreshed every day to a good standard. Breakfast had good choice of foods and drinks.Location was fairly convenient for Covent Garden, Brit museum , Trafalgar Square etc. I walked to all these places. Some neat shops around too. I would use it again.

more like a 1 star motel than a hotel. 'ensuite' room is disgusting and dirty. bathroom is horrid and smells. 'breakfast included' includes boxes of korn flakes and nutella spreads with scrambled eggs made by a 12 year old. rooms are very old, chairs broken, only get droplets of water from the shower. this place is in serious and urgent need of renovation!! yuck

Was traveling alone, so I had a very small single room. As soon as you open the door, the bed is right there and it's a squeeze to get past the bed and the desk to the vanity and the wardrobe. But if like me, you just wanted a clean, comfortable place to sleep and shower before heading out to enjoy your London stay, it's quite satisfactory. Extra points for the staff who are very nice and helpful, and the free full hot breakfast buffet every morning which the kitchen managed to keep stocked even in the busiest breakfast rushes. As for location, it can't really be beat. I could easily walk to the British Museum, Leicester Square and all the West End theaters, Picadilly, Soho, Covent Garden, Westminster. Tube stations, bus stops, and an abundance of restaurant choices in Fitzrovia were also short walks away. I would stay here again.

Terrible hotel. Not more than an bad B&B experience. Everything was bad for the ridiculous price. Dirty and cramped. Never again.

We were 'greeted' by a less than helpful man who told us to get to our room, we'd have to go up two flights of stairs and then down two ... with our suitcases! A maid stopped us at the top of the second flight of stairs and said we could have gone down one flight of stairs and through the kitchen (it was closed for the day so we could sneak through). We went to the room and found it in the basement. It smelled of damp and was really cramped. I returned to the office and told the man that I wanted to move because the room smelled and was just unacceptable. We said we would have to stay in the room that night because there were no others. I told him that I wanted him to take my suitcases to the room since he had sent us up two flights of stairs with my heavy suitcase. He did move the suitcases but I'm sure he wouldn't have if I hadn't pressed the issue. The young man at reception over the remainder of our stay was much more pleasant and helpful. We were moved twice more as rooms became available and he moved them each time. Each of the three rooms in which we stayed was marginally clean and the bathrooms were amazingly cramped - you could sit on the toilet and shower at the same time! The morning foods offered were not great - we opted to get real coffee and a proper breakfast elsewhere.

Great location and good price! Hotel hasn't been done up in quite a few years so air is quite stale in rooms and corridors but if you are prepared to overlook this it's not a bad option...

I placed order on web and saw photos said to be from the room I was placing order for. When we arrived (3 persones) we were told we had to sleep one night in another house up on 4th floor no elevator and narrow staircase. This room was too small for thre persones with only one dobblebed and travelbed for the third one.The bathroom was not clean and had loose tiles on floor I took one up with my bare hands. This can´t be fullfilling the BS of hotel rooms ! The later room was OK but water was not flushing out of the fauchett valves !! The staff was doing their best !!

Location, location. Our stay was made so much easier by the location of Arran House being near both bus and underground. Frequent buses stopped outside in Gower Street, giving us easy access to most of London's touristy places. Goodge St Underground was only 5 minute walk away. Some great spots to eat nearby, again within walking distance.

Very small rooms, although of course this is London. We stayed in a room in which I could reach from one wall to the other. Make sure you specify en suite if that is what you want!

Modest, small rooms; excellent beds. Small but well functioning bathroom/toilet. Very clean. Linens changed daily; good free Wifi; excellent staff person. Good to get larger room for several people - more space. Excellent location in city.

Rooms are basic, small, do not have en suite toilets, and local calls are chargeable. But this is more than balanced out with the very helpful & flexible hotel manager, complimentary wifi and fabulous breakfast, and great location.

We didn't realize the shared bathroom situation but it was fine once we accepted it. The toilets and showers were tidy and clean. The worst at the stay was our room: First we were brought into a tiny and disgusting room. stains everywhere and the carpet was not cleaned since years it looked like. When we complained we were offered 2 different rooms of which we took a three bed room. Nothing special but at least not dirty. Breakfast is standard fry up with instant coffee only.
