In November 2023 I booked a single night for two people here for 25 June 2024 on Expedia. I received an email from Expedia saying “Your reservation is confirmed. No need to call to reconfirm” and payment was taken from my credit card. This was part of a three-week tour from Cape Town to Durban. On 13 June 2024 I received a message from the accommodation, via Expedia, saying “Kindly note that we have no availability for the date originally booked” and that they had outsourced accommodation. Despite me asking for a reason no explanation was given as to why accommodation was confirmed 6 months earlier but suddenly no longer was. By this time we were already in South Africa and it was far too late to change our plans so we had no option but to accept the alternative accommodation they had arranged. It was quite different to what we had booked, a ‘holiday camp’ – Cremorne Estate. I have been booking accommodation via the main hotel booking websites for over 20 years and this has never happened to me before. A thoroughly unsatisfactory experience.

The management where not very obvious in their appearances. The place looks very tired and badly maintained and in serious need of a refurbishment.

My wife and I needed a place to stay in Port St Johns, to break our journey across the Transkei. We didn't know what to expect or hope for, so we took a chance. Umzimvubu Retreat Guest House was fine - comfortable and clean, pleasant staff, two friendly dogs, a fragrant Yesterday, a fragrant Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow bush by the front entrance. Breakfast was excellent. There wasn't really any view of the ocean, but the town's natural setting overall is spectacular - it's almost worth staying overnight in Port St Johns just for the natural beauty of the cliffs and the ocean.

Durch kostenloses Upgraten hatten wir auch Strom und tolle Aussicht auf das Meer.
