Very nice stay, clean rooms and very friendly front desk staff. Just wish there might have been some actual mugs for microwaving my own drink, instead of only ones for the coffee machine. Overall a very nice stay, would definitely come again!

We had 2 rooms originally with two couples- but I had to get a third room as the original room was insanely noisy after I requested a quiet room- street noise was really bad. The second room I got around midnight- the walls are so thin and the couple in the room next to me was arguing so bad and the girl kept screaming, almost in fear. Our original room was dirty- dirty sheets and tub, but they quickly remedied it. This was our 3rd or 4th stay here and we’ve always had a great experience here- we will of course come back, but this last time wasn’t the greatest. The staff is accommodating and so friendly- just sucks I had to get an additional room at such a high cost to try to sleep and it was just as bad. Overall- please give this gem a try- area is walkable, staff is great, rooms have fans- and are very cute, updated but still vintage.

First and foremost, I will say the staff here was extremely nice and helpful. I called to find out where to park before checking in and she was able to direct me. Parking was absolutely not convenient and expensive. Very glad I was able to find street parking on a Saturday night to avoid another night of paying for parking, but the area made it a bit nerve wrecking to park overnight on the streets. I didn't think anything with my TV not working (electrical issue) since I wasn't going to be in the room much but the front desk personnel was quick to respond and apologetic. For the most part, the hotel is nice. Nothing spectacular. If you're not planning on being in the room much, I can recommend. I didn't necessarily feel unsafe, but I would not recommend walking around at night. Which is fine, because there's not much to do around. It's a good location for Uber to get you around though.

Beautiful view, in a great location!! My room just had small things, like our bathroom door wasn’t locking properly, no safe, phone, one of our pillows had a small stain. But none of this these things were a problem or a deal breaker! Loved this stay :)

We liked the availability of tea and coffee in the hotel lobby. The room was clean and spacious with a good view. No negatives in our experience of the hotel.

The Carlton Hotel has a nice location, but my stay was disrupted by constant noise and thin walls. On top of that, housekeeping knocked on the door early in the morning, which felt intrusive. Not ideal if you're looking for a restful stay.

Room is comfy for the price...except you might hear doors banging when people close their door next door. Other than that, for that price in sf is hard to beat. Note the hotel is next to tenderloin which is nit exactly a nice area..but nothing happens to me when i return after midnight though

This was an excellent place to stay. It was in a safe district, with cafes and small stores, like Trader Joe’s, close by. Easy to be picked up by ride services. Probably an old building, but very well restored and decorated. I would go there again

Good basic hotel at a good price for downtown SF. Just one fault the walls are thin so you can hear your neighbors. I had to ask them to turn down the TV at night. They did immediately so that was good.

During our stay the weather was very warm. The hotel has no A/C and room windows only open 2 inches for safety reasons. Ceiling fan works but blows no air downward. Radiator heater remains on and only warm to the touch, but still hot in an already warm room. You have to use your phone for the access code to the room, which is cool, but not cool when wifi doesn't work.
