This place was terrible, the rooms were not clean and everything was broken. There was a dead cockroach in the room. I just want my money back. It does not look the same as it’s advertised online

I had a wonderful stay. The only concern was in the bathroom there was a sewage smell. But other than that I enjoyed the stay. Older hotel but it had character.

Great staff went the extra mile with help and advice. Gave us the confidence to use the metro and explore safely. Breakfast good and room just fine.

Staff are delightful, and always helpful. The hotel is right in the middle of everything. Lift to 4th floor then reception.

You are not staying here because it’s a five star hotel. You are staying here because it’s cheap. On the outside looks super sketchy (see picture) and you get inside and the the hotel is on the 4th floor and you don’t feel super confident in the elevator but it works. Once you get to the fourth floor and the reception desk you finally feel ok, it’s a cute place. It’s no longer “omg I’m going to die here.” They still use old keys here for the rooms but that didn’t bother me. Never thought my stuff would get stolen. The rooms are actually on the fifth floor and the room next to reception is where you have breakfast. I stayed in a triple with my sister. There was a double bed and a single. I decided to upgrade because there would be more space to move. The mattresses are hard as rock and only made up with sheets. We thought there was no blankets but we also didn’t look bc we didn’t really need them (the blankets were in the closet). The AC worked and we were comfortable. Breakfast is a plastic wrapped plate with a hard boiled egg, couple slices of bread, butter, jam, cream cheese. Not bad, I ate all of it. They have tea and coffee as well. They have a water bubbler that you can use to fill up your water bottle. My sister said it tasted weird but I thought it was fine. Overall, you can sleep easy enough you won’t get murdered or robbed but the noise from the car horns in the street might keep you up. It has the bare essentials.

I had two days left of an extended business trip and wanted to stay in the heart of old Cairo. This hotel is on the 3rd, 4th and 5th floors of an old apartment building just off Opera Square where the fast paced modern shopping district meets the busy market street leading up to the Khan-el-Khalil. It is also easy to reach on the excellent metro (at Attaba station). Rooms are good sized, with high ceilings. My bed was very comfortable and the modern a/c was very efficient. The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. The breakfast room on the 4th floor is bright and airy and although I'm not a breakfast person what was available did the job nicely. The old style lift was a bit nerve wracking for me, but has recently been renewed with a new enclosed cabin, so do not be concerned.

Attracted by its location and Expedia photos made it look like a good choice. The reality was quite different; yes the location was as expected but the hotel was well below expectations, for instance the toilet leaked every time it was flushed, so there was a permanent puddle in the bathroom, couldn't fully shut the bedroom window so not only was it noisy but we could smell car fumes from outside, the 100-year-old lift seemed to have a mind of its own. I could go on, bottom line if you do decide to stay here, you may wish to lower your expectations.

We would not recommend this property because of a terrible experience. 1. Its an old building with a dilapidated elevator and the reception is on 4th floor. If you have more than 2 bags, you are going to waste a lot of time getting your luggage to your room. When we arrived, there was only one person on the reception and no help. We were 9 passengers with one bag each and spent half hour just lugging our luggage to reception. After than another half hour to take our luggage to our respective rooms which were on 3rd and 5th floor. Airport Transfers: The owner of this property (who we communicated via receptionist) was a greedy person. We requested a 5 min halt at a location which was 5 min away from the hotel (that would include no detour) as part of the airport transfer. He quoted us twice the price for that quick stopover. After a bit of haggling, we just felt uncomfortable and decided we don't want the stop-over and just take us to the airport directly. The owner decided to "teach us a lesson" by cancelling the airport transfer altogether. We came to know about the cancellation 1/2 hour before leaving. Luckily, we found uber that not only stopped at the location for 5 min but also took us to airport in time for 1/4 of the price. Rooms: We have stayed in another hotel in the same area which was old but very well maintained and clean. But this old is just another level old and dilapidated. Creaky beds as if you were sleeping in a train, smelly rooms and dirty rug.

The biggest disappointment was the tour they offered for my family. The tour guide rushed us through the historical sites, 30 minutes at Giza at most, because their priority is to push their guests in to shops where they make commisions and not to teach you their history or show you the ancient sites. After a very disappointing day with tour guide, after they took us back to the hotel, and we went back to our room, I went out to buy water and I saw the front desk clerk and tour guide having a happy discussion about the commission they made from me that day. The hotel lobby is on the 4th floor and the tour guide was supposed to have been gone by then, specially since there is absolutely nowhere to park in downtown Cairo it seemed off seeing them counting money. The hotel is well located amd for the money they charge, it's a good bargain but the shady operation they run with their tours is dishonest and I will never return nor do I recommend.

The room itself was clean, spacious and comfortable. Staff were very polite and helpful. The building was not very clean and in disrepair with one very old elevator. Location was good with shops and restaurants at walking distance.

Very convenient location, perfect for a short stay. Room was clean and spacious, I love high ceilings . Accessing the building is a little challenging , parking is difficult , traffic authority is on the watch . the hotel is on the 4th floor of this antique building, yes there is an exotic style elevator to get there. their rates are reasonable, for Old Cairo Staff very friendly. I would stay there next time I visit Cairo !!

Recently I visited Cairo, Egypt for a two week vacation. I selected Victory of Downtown Hotel because of the location and price. I was truly amazed with the friendliness of the staff, how clean the room was and the location. Although the hotel may be deceiving from the outside, you cannot judge a book by its cover. The inside is clean filled with friendly staff. I highly recommend this hotel and booking through Hotels.com. Hotels.com come gave me reminders and information on my stay before my actual stay. Thanks!

I stayed here for 4 nights in Cairo. It is a decent 3 star hotel. Habiba was very nice via email before my arrival and arranged a hotel pick up for me. For reference, I paid about $37 USD per night. I had trouble sleeping due to the noise from the street and the nearby mosque, but this is not uncommon in Cairo. Although there was a free breakfast, the staff could not manage to not run out of food several times during the breakfast and would have to run out somewhere to buy more food. The housekeeping "service" was strange. They came 2 of three mornings, and one morning they left a pile of (other people's) room keys in my room. Lastly, the shower handle wall attachment was broken and there was no shower curtain or bathmat which meant the floor was very slippery. The only balcony in the hotel is in the breakfast room, not in the guestrooms. Pros: +a/c +hot water +location This hotel has some suspicious reviews on Google. As others have suggested, I think these are reviews by staff and friends/family.

Nice place with very friendly staff. Lovely balcony but had to keep it closed or the mosquitoes would enter the room. Delicious Egyptian breakfast with falafel, bread, lentil stew, tomatoes, cheese, fried aubergine and cucumber. Very filling! Great location, I walked to most sites I wanted to visit. Room was big and had a desk which was great because I had lots of work to do unfortunately. Lovely balcony but I kept it mostly closed because mosquitoes would enter the room quickly when balcony door was opened. Fortunately they would usually stay in the bathroom making them easy to kill.

Staff are lovely but the hotel is on the 3rd,4th and 5th floors of a very old building in a less than desireable area. Rooms do not resemble the website.
