The service was wonderful, and the prices for the rooms, tours, etc. were very fair. The beds were rough - they have springs that are easily felt through the surface of the mattress. I have a feeling that this would have been the case almost anywhere in Flores, though. The views were spectacular!

Zapote Tree is the perfect type of place, it is very easily accessible from the main island of Flores by a quick and cheap boat ride. The owners Peter and Yolanda are extremely kind and warm people and arranged everything for me to get there and reach my flight out. Eric who also works there is also a great cook and makes one mean breakfast perfect before trekking out to the jungle or the ruins of Tikal for a long day of walking and climbing. Peter in particular went out of his way to make sure my stay was perfect and that I was taking advantage of all that Flores had to offer. He also has a great personality and you can tell he and everyone else working there take pride in their business and the space. The hotel is also walkable from a beautiful beach and has a nice hiking area right behind it up a hill. Two minutes walking and you are literally in the jungle with howler monkeys walking on the remnants of an old Mayan city. You cant get that anywhere else.

We liked the location which is a short boat ride from Flores with delightful view of the colorful buildings and lights of Flores. The owners built this hotel from the ground up over the years. The hotel is comfortable with lots of sitting areas with lake breezes and shady fruit trees. The owners, Peter and Yolanda, are very hospitable and knowledgeable about the Mayan culture and the area and both are guides. Peter took us on a tour to a Mayan ruins Tayasol which is located on a forested hill behind the hotel followed by a boat tour on the lake to villages and beach. Peter also arranged transport and guided us on a informative tour of the very impressive Tikal. We enjoyed delicious breakfasts and dinners at the hotel prepared by Eric and staff and and also had a couple of wonderful meals in Flores especially Enrico's on his terrace overlooking the water. The rooms are decent size, simple but cute and comfortable with AC and fans to alleviate the afternoon heat. A small pool was very refreshing after our long hikes. The hotel and local restaurants offer good value and Guatemala prices in general are attractive even in tourist areas. We would love to return for a longer stay to explore the Peten area further and Zapote Tree Inn offers good value for a quiet, family operated comfortable small hotel.

We stayed here on a roadtrip from Guatemala City to Tikal and it was such a memorable stay. Eric and his staff attended our needs with attention to detail, including delicious breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The food was exquisite and we were lucky to try fresh white fish, fresh coconuts, delicious pineapple juice, fresh fruits, and authentic foods. He ensured the pump for the pool stayed on for our son. THE VIEW OF FLORES is worth it alone, but we also went up to the local mirador - amazing. The location is unique, with beautiful artwork in each room and decorating the entire location. Eric and the hotel owners know a lot about Mayan history and archaeology which was icing on the cake for our family. They even have some unique artifacts. The rooms are tidy and comfortable with AC, wifi, hot water. There is laundry service. You will feel like you are home. One thing I wish I knew before driving through the Petencito roads is that it is faster and safer to take the car ferry from la isla de Flores than to drive through Petencito to get to the location. Make sure to call Eric before arriving and he will explain the best way to get to the hotel. We only stayed one night, wish we would have stayed at least two, but I will be sure to return on my next trip to Guatemala, especially for the season for zapote fruits (one of my favorites!). Eric, thank you!!
