My stay was completely derailed by a severe safety and security issue. Late one night, I had to deal with a highly erratic individual, accompanied by an unknown person, causing massive chaos right outside my door. They were knocking and trying to push their way into my room at midnight. This quickly escalated into them screaming unhinged, discriminatory and offensive abuse towards me. The situation was so out of control that security and then the police had to intervene. This individual was shortly arrested.
The most shocking part was when the responding officers explicitly stated that this individual was actually on house arrest, and that this university residence was the address as part of their release conditions. Furthermore, their stay had been prepaid for about a month. This means the property had explicitly agreed to house someone under the active supervision of the criminal courts while the general public was booking rooms right down the hall.
The consequences of this dangerous situation came right to my door in the middle of the night. Two unknown individuals attempted to push their way into my small dorm room in a strange city—all because the property was de facto functioning similarly to a halfway house. Despite my attempts to discuss the matter with staff and calling the manager, no one seemed to care about my experience in the days following the event.
