The elegance of this hotel was a surprise, given its rural location. The room was very comfortable and well thought out. Both dinner and breakfast were outstanding and the staff were professional and welcoming.

We found this hotel ourselves some years ago and have since used it two or three times a year to break the journey from Calais to Ebeltoft in Denmark which is just over 700 miles. It is located 20/25 minutes south west of Hamburg about seven minutes drive from the Bremen - Hamburg A1- E22 autobahn. It is a very well run family business and is a classic example of German efficiency. The staff are all very friendly and most speak English. There is a nice bar area and it has a good restaurant. In the summer guests can eat and drink in the well kept gardens. Bedrooms and bathrooms are nicely finished and provide everything you need but as you would expect in Germany, are not over the top. Despite its proximity to the autobahn, it is located on the edge of a village in an attractive rural location and many people appear to stay there to do local walks.

Hotel is quite basic, and the rooms while clean do not have much in the way of mini-bars or accessories (e.g. an iron). However, the location is fantastic in the forest, and for the price it is very reasonable.

A very nice hotel.

Spent a night at the hotel when driving from Amsterdam to Sweden. I arrived 2150 just before close very hungry. I got a nice room and the staff made a good lighter meal even at this time a day. Very nice and service minded staff!

This is not a 5*, fluffy towels, dinky shampoo bottles type of place but we rated it as highly as if it had been. Family run, very welcoming and we had everything we needed including sauna, sunroom and exercise bikes which we didn't have time to use. Maybe not Lady Gaga at breakfast... but you can't have everything! Shower a little underwhelming but more than made up for by everything else. We arrived very late from a long drive from London via Dover/Dunkerque with endless delays and they offered us soup, bread and cheese without hesitation. It's off the beaten track so we recommend a satnav to find it, but it was worth it. Brilliant value - 45 gbp each for b&b and the late supper. Off season prices I'm sure (the week before Christmas), but we were impressed. The breakfast was huge and excellent quality. We left very rested and would happily recommend it.
