Good hotel and comfortable bed. Had cancel the second night as the hotel was closed. Access for an 81 year old was very difficult. Lots of stairs to manage. The very cold weather made it even more difficult. The manager was very good and helpful. We hope to get a refund for the second night. The location was excellent and the pub was very quirky and quite special.

I made allowance for the fact that the property was family owned , not a chain. The father had retired through ill health and the son was taking over. The refurbishment was a work in progress. The price was good value. The son was friendly and helpful. The building had character. I slept well on a comfortable clean bed with good quality clean linen . I will return.

1st room offered, TV not working, no on suite facilties, bare boards on floor. Paint on ceilling flaking off. 2nd room, just a bed, no side lights, no facilities, no tv. Plaster on one wall not tnere revealing bare concrete. Bare floor boards with very uneven floors. Very dusty. Shared shower room had just cold water. Floor of the bathroom had floor tiles missing. This was in the OLD part of the building. The 2 rooms appear to be converted attic space. FOR £60 A night, this is far from ideal in this day and age.

It was a nice place to stay if you’re attending an event. However, the beds were quite squeaky and wobbly. Also, the check-out door was locked, which made it difficult to return the key normally; a key box would be a good idea. Overall, it was relatively quiet, and I appreciated the back entrance for after-hours access.

This quaint, Grade 2 Listed building housing the bar and reception desk has excellent, family staff. The guest rooms are modern in design, clean & spacious. My son and I enjoyed looking around the village and ate at one of the various resturaunt's located nearby. Nice and quiet overnight, We left this morning to drop off my son at Gatwick Airport (30 minutes drive) avoiding the risk of him missing his flight. (We would have had to use the M25 if we drove from our home)

The hotel consists of rooms above the pub. I had a self check in at rear of pub - the entry is very old and shabby. To be fair the lady I spoke to on the phone advised that the property is undergoing new ownership so perhaps renovation/refubishment plans are in the pipeline. She was friendly and helpful. The room itself was very old fashioned, the en suite was 60's/70's mustard coloured with an old fashioned electric heater on the wall which was a blast from the past. HOWEVER, the room and ensuite were clean and I felt a great effort had been made to ensure the bed looked clean and comfortable. The carpet felt slightly "sticky"underfoot which was slightly off-putting. However it was a clean room and bed and was relatively good value - I simply needed a bed for a night so it served its purpose.

Great experience staying at Chequers. The hotel is very well located, plenty of car park spaces in front of the hotel and staff was absolutely brilliant!

Lovely old building but sadly run down, 1980s decor and facilities and no food service of any kind. But bed was comfortable and TV worked well. Price was very low though so represents good value for money for a basic overnight stay.

Contacted the property arranged a late check in. Paid for the room directly with the hotel. Hotel gave me instructions how to enter the property. I arrived 10pm, hotel had not respected what was agreed. I could not enter hotel, and it was impossible to contact anyone. Basically I have paid and received nothing in return.

When I got there it was closed and there was no sign of lights or people. I had to go to a hotel nearby and pay for another room.

Oh dear. Read the reviews, thought, surely its fine for one night. Avoid, honestly, it wont be worth half of what you are paying. So many red flags on this place but the biggest for me...when we checked it in was daytime, got the key and headed to the room which took you through a dark reception room and through unlit corridors, I just thought they are saving money as daytime....no....if you get back after the pub closes, all the lights are off. I mean all of them. As in you are walking though the corridors of this very old hotel in PITCH black. The room is extremely dated. I'd guess from the 70's-80's, and not in a cute kitch way. In a time when people are worried about beg bugs in Paris, I was more worried about the plague still infesting what honestly looked like could be original 15th century carpets. Last thing...honestly there are so many things but theres only so many characters. The back door to the hotel (which was on our floor), was just open all night, it doesnt even look like it has a functioning lock anymore.
