This spot is also known for viewing the Bailing Giant Tree, an over 2500-year-old red cypress. Standing 30 meters tall, approximately ten stories high, with a diameter of 3.4 meters and a circumference of 9.4 meters, it takes about six people to encircle it. Despite being struck by lightning and having a hollow trunk, the surrounding younger wood remains solid. The tree continues to thrive, as water is transported upward through the younger wood and nutrients are transported downward through the inner bark. This allows the hollow giant to sustain life and keep growing. Additionally, Bailing marks the divide between the coniferous and broadleaf tree species of Taipingshan.
