British Columbia is located in the most western province in Canada. It is known for bordering the Pacific Ocean on the west and the Rocky Mountains and the Alberta border on the west. The name itself was chosen to distinguish the British territory from the “American Columbia” or “Southern Columbia”, which later became part of Oregon Territory. Other than that, the name also references based on the Columbia River which is a major waterway in the region.
