Before it was officially turned into a heritage site in 2015, Breksi Cliff Park was a limestone quarry mined by locals for decades. Mining activities were soon banned after scientists found that the limestone cliffs were formed by a major volcanic eruption millions of years ago. These days, visitors flock to the site to take photos, see carvings by local artists on the cliffsides, as well as enjoy panoramic views of Prambanan and Mount Merapi.
