One of Bali's most impressive archeological sites, the Gunung Kawi Temple features two rows of eight-meter-high shrines carved into a cliff face. It's believed to have been built in the 11th century to honor the Balinese king, Udayana. To reach the temple, visitors must descend around 300 steps down a steep stone stairway, accompanied by beautiful views of rice terraces and riverside valleys.
