Introduction

Nong Khai is another province of North East Thailand. It is known as the Naga city(Nagas being the giant serpent guardians said to inhabit the Mekong River) This province is a gateway to Vientiane, the capital of Laos. Nong Khai doesn't have any airport and the closest airport you can fly into is Udon Thani Airport(58km). You can go to Nong Khai by bus, rent a car, train and taxi.

Things to do in Nong Khai

Explore Sala Kaew Ku; This place is full of wonderful statues and sculptures. The tallest sculpture in this place is a Buddha seated on a coiled naga (serpent deity) with a seven-headed hood(25m high)

Shopping at Tha Sadet Market; There are many products from Indochina and East Europe such as dried food, processed food, electronic devices, clothes, shoes, watches, kitchenware, accessories, etc.

Watch the sea of mist at Phu Pha dak; In the morning, on the top of the mountain you will see an impressive view of the sea of mist that flows over the mountains on both sides of Thailand and Lao PDR.

Place to visit in Nong Khai

Than Thip Waterfall; The highest waterfall in Nong Khai province is surrounded by dense jungle. It is a beautiful three-tiered cascade that flows down a 30 meter rock face into a small pool which is suitable for you to take a dip.

Wat Pha Tak Suea Skywalk; The skywalk that features a glass floor for an unobstructed view of the Mekong river that marks the border with Laos.

Wat Pho Chai; It is a royal temple which is very beautiful both inside and out. The wall inside the temple is decorated by beautiful paintings. Moreover Luang Pho Phra Sai, a Buddha statue of the town which had been brought over from Laos and fell in the Mekong river, and was then recovered 25 years later, is housed here.

In addition Nong Khai has an important festival occurring in the full moon night of the 11th month of the lunar year that signifies the end of Buddhist rain retreat called the naga fireball.
