Cebu is a city that is surrounded by the sea. No wonder it is very familiar to locals who use the ferry as public transportation. Locals are already commonly using ferries as a transportation mode to reach the next island around Cebu. For tourists, this can be an alternative to get lower prices for transportation to Cebu.
Fares: As transportation, the ferry also has its class which differs in the categories of passengers. Not only that, different ferries offer different travel times, and of course, the shorter the travel time, the more expensive the ticket will be. The prices you need to pay start from PHP 25 to PHP 400, based on the facilities you choose and the travel time.
Route & Operational Hours: If you are wanted to come to Cebu, you can choose to depart from Matnog, Ormoc, Tubigo, and Bohol to Pier 3, Cebu. Or if you want to leave, you can leave from Pier 3, to the places mentioned before.
The Operation of each ferry is different, so pay attention and choose wisely based on your schedule. Usually, the ferry for long route travel time is open for 24 hours. But, for short route travel time, it opens from 06:00 a.m. to 09:00 p.m.
If Indonesia has becak and Thailand has tuk tuk, the Philippines has tricycle. This transportation is a motorcycle with one more added motorcycle tier. Tricycles can take up to 3 passengers in a one-way route.
Fares: As a conventional transportation choice, people usually have to negotiate with the driver to get the best deals. It's gonna be easy for locals, but not for tourists. Therefore, you need to be more aware and better at negotiating before you want to use the tricycle. Usually, the price starts from PHP 15.
Route & Operational Hours: People tend to use tricycles if they have a short route. However, there is no limit route for tricycles, based on the passenger's needs.
Just like in other countries, buses tend to be common public transportation used by the locals. There are some types of buses you can choose from, such as Beeps, Sugbo, and MyBus. Each bus has its own route, but somehow they connect. Locals tend to use the bus because it's cheap and has air conditioning inside.
Fares: MyBus has a free route for you who want to go to SM Cebu City - SM Consolacion or BDO Fuente - SM Seaside. MyBus and Sugbo also have paid routes starting from PHP 8 to PHP 25.
For payment, you can use cashless such as e-wallet myBus or ePlus. You can also top up money at the terminal with card prices starting from PHP 200, including a balance of PHP 100.

Besides tricycles, there is still Habal-habal, another conventional form of transportation in the Philippines. Basically, Habal-habal is a motorcycle with modifications, so one Habal-habal can take up to 6 passengers in one way! You can find Habal-habal in common places such as markets, offices, and schools.
Fares: Usually, you need to pay around PHP 50 for every 2 kilometers route. It can be higher during the rainy season. You can also negotiate to get better deals before going with Habal-habal.
Routes & Operational Hours: Since Habal-habal is an individual belonging, they don’t have any specific route, it is just based on an agreement between passengers and the driver.
If buses are big transportation and able to take passengers up to dozens of people, there are still Jeepneys, a mini version of buses, and also common transportation for locals. According to its history, Jeepney used to be an American colonial military during World War II. After the war ended, locals used the Jeepneys as public transportation for daily use.
Fares: Jeepney only accepts cash payments. It starts from PHP 8 for each 4-kilometer route and an additional fee of PHP 1 for each following one-kilometer route. You can say “para por” or “para”, which means you want to arrive at a specific location and pay it to the driver before getting out of the Jeepney.
Route & Operational Hours: Each Jeepney has its own route and they have the route outside the cars’ wall. Some Jeepneys even still operate during the night.

For better privacy and comfort, you can choose a taxi. In every corner of Cebu City, you are going to find a taxi easily. Besides the conventional taxi, you can also find online taxis, which can be booked through an application.
Conventional taxis are separated into two colors, white and yellow. White taxis tend to be found easily around the city, while yellow taxis usually can be found around the airport.
Fares: Conventional taxi’s price starts from PHP 40 and it will add more fees for each kilometer route. You can use cash or cashless payment, and don’t forget to pay attention to the taxi meter along the way.
