Singapore is an exciting country in Southeast Asia to visit, especially for family recreation. This country is known to be child-friendly and has various complete facilities, including sophisticated transportation.

Transportation in the country of Singapore is known to be sophisticated and hassle-free! Of course, this makes it easier for travelers who want to explore various places in this Merlion-symbolized country. What transportation can be used? Here's the review.

MRT

Mass Rapid Transit, or MRT, is one of the transportation options in Singapore. Apart from being fast, the MRT in this country is also of good quality in terms of cleanliness, security, and service.

This mode of land transportation is the main rail transportation spread throughout Singapore. In addition, the price is also affordable. So it's no wonder this subway is the choice of many Singaporeans and travelers from various countries when stopping here.

Metro Operational Hours

The MRT operates from 05.30 to midnight every day. To find out the complete schedule and changes in operating hours in real-time, you can use MyTransport.SG application.

Especially during peak hours, between 07.00 - 09.00 and 17.00 - 19.00, the MRT will usually come twice every 2 or 3 minutes. Unlike on holidays, the operating hours of the Singapore MRT will be extended from regular days.

Rail Route

The Singapore MRT route is divided into 6: East-West Line, North East Line, Circle Line, Downtown Line, North-South Line, and Thomson East Coast Line. For details, you can access the Singapore MRT line map.

Many interesting places, such as the North-South Line, are worth visiting via the MRT. On this route, you can pass iconic Singapore places such as Merlion Park, Orchard Road, and Lau Pa Sat.

Singapore MRT Ticket Price

Subway ticket prices are based on distance and type of passenger. Even so, the price is affordable even for traveling a considerable distance. From S$1 to S$2.50.

Primarily for passengers with disabilities, older people, and students, the fares set are much cheaper than the adult and passenger categoriesWorkfare Transport Concession Scheme (WTCS).

Please note that one-way tickets have been abolished since March 2022. Now ticket payments can be made using the following methods:

1.
ez-link or NETS FlashPay is a payment method made by topping up the balance with a certain amount at mini-markets and TransitLink counters.
2.
SimplyGo is a payment application that can be filled out in various ways, such as via an ATM or digital.
3.
Singapore Tourist Pass payment method with a travel card that can be used freely for the desired route according to the day's duration. The price for one day of using this card is charged at S$10.

LRT

Light Rail Transit, or LRT, is another transportation option. Even though its reach is not as broad as the MRT, this driverless train system can reach residents' housing, especially those in Tampines, Toa Payoh, Bedok, Bishan, and the Jurong area.

This transportation is not very popular and has less space than the MRT. Usually, in one LRT series, there are only one or two cars. Even so, this transportation is still comfortable to use.

Exploring Singapore by using the LRT will reveal another side of Singapore. You can see various apartments or residential locations of residents in the middle of a green area, isn't it interesting?

LRT Ticket Price

There is no difference between MRT and LRT fares in Singapore, the price is the same and affordable, and the fare amount is based on the distance and the type of passenger. The payment method used is also not much different from the MRT.

Facility

LRT has bench facilities, automatic doors, route maps, air conditioning, train arrival information boards, and safety screen doors. In addition, some windows automatically dim, as a private facility for passengers.

LRT Routes

The Singapore LRT has only served two routes: the Bukit Panjang LRT and the Sengkang-Punggol LRT. The Bukit Panjang LRT serves the Bukit Panjang and Choa Chu Kang routes to the North-South Line and the City Center.

Meanwhile, the Sengkang-Punggol LRT serves 14 stations and connects residents in Sengkang to Punggol to the Sengkang MRT station on the Northeast Line, the city center, and the Sengkang bus interchange.

Operational hour

The LRT has the same operating hours as the MRT, from 05:30 a.m. to midnight daily.

Bus

Singapore's other best transportation is Bus. This mode of land transportation is the right choice for those of you who want to enjoy the charming views of Singapore during your trip.

Besides that, compared to the MRT, the bus is one of the best forms of transportation to reach the anti-mainstream corners of Singapore.

Things to note before boarding the bus

Before boarding the bus, pay attention to the destination and direction of the bus stop. Because even though the bus is the same, sometimes the destination is different. But don't worry; each bus has a number, destination, and route to be passed.

Bus Ticket Prices

Like the MRT and LRT, fares are also determined by passenger type. But for you, the type of adult passenger can use a card as a payment method if you want it to be cheaper.

One adult is charged S$1 by card. As for cash payments, the rate is S$1.70.

Types of Bus Services

Five types of bus services can be selected as needed, namely Public Buses, Premium Buses, City Direct Buses, Shuttle Buses to Attractions, and Shuttle Buses to Hospitals.

You also don't need to be afraid when exploring Singapore and coming home late at night because this country also provides Midnight Buses ready to take you to your destination at night.

Operational hour

Singapore bus operating hours start at 05.30, and the last bus departs at 23.30 at night. For more details, you can visit the SBS Transit website to learn about changes or bus schedules you want to ride. Or you can also use MyTransport.SG application which is available for IOS and Android.

Those are the three options for getting around in Singapore. Of all the transportation mentioned above, which vehicle do you want to try?

We suggest you also rent a car at Traveloka for a more convenient way to explore the city. Whether renting a car with or without a driver, Traveloka Car Rental will ensure your trip is hassle-free.
