Let's Go! Travel Tips to Jakarta, Indonesia

Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, is a great place to learn about the country. This metropolis, which has approximately 10 million residents of various races and ethnicities, has grown rapidly over the years by incorporating a number of smaller towns.

Despite its impressive size, Jakarta is not a prime destination for tourists from other countries. However, it remains a transit hub for travelers en route to other popular sites, such as Bandung, Yogyakarta, Bali, and Lombok, as is the case with many other cities in Southeast Asia.

Whether you're arranging a trip to Jakarta or simply have a lengthy layover, this article will provide helpful advice to help you make the most of it.

1. By Air

If you plan to travel to Jakarta, flying is one of the best options. Jakarta has two airports that serve domestic and international flights. The main one is Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, located in Tangerang. The second airport, Halim Perdanakusuma, is located in East Jakarta. However, Halim Airport only operates domestic flights.

2. By Land

Jakarta is easily accessible by bus or train from several major cities on Java Island. If you are traveling to Jakarta from outside of Java, you can take buses or rent a car. However, if you are still on Java Island, taking the train could be your best choice.

3. By Sea

North of Jakarta lies Tanjung Priok, one of Indonesia’s busiest ports. If you want to travel to Jakarta at a lower cost, consider arriving by ship. Tanjung Priok port is a popular entry point for those coming to Jakarta by sea.

Like many other cities in Southeast Asia, Jakarta experiences a tropical monsoon climate with two distinct seasons: wet and dry. The weather in Jakarta is best from June to September. This is the dry season, so it's a great time to explore the city and do things outside. During these months, temperatures remain consistently warm and stable. Visitors can expect low humidity, plenty of sunshine, and 11–12 hours of daylight.

The dry season is generally the most popular time to visit, as the weather is typically hot and sunny without much chance of rain disrupting travel plans or outdoor activities. The weather in Jakarta stays the same all year round. That means visitors can enjoy the city's sights and activities no matter what time of year they come.

The rainy season lasts from October to May in Jakarta. The most rain falls in January and February. You can expect some rain during the whole season, but the rain showers are usually brief. Temperatures remain warm, and the rain helps to clear the air, although more humidity and cloud cover can reduce the number of sunny days.

1. Menteng

Many of Jakarta’s most popular attractions, including the National Monument, Istiqlal Mosque, and Plaza Indonesia Shopping Mall, are located in and around the administrative hub of Menteng. From Gambir Railway Station, you may reach the hotel in a few minutes via Grab or cab.

2. Kemang

If you’re looking for lively nightlife in Jakarta, Kemang is where you’ll want to be. Hipsters flock to this South Jakarta neighborhood because of the abundance of unique shops, cafes, and eateries.

3. Gambir

Gambir, which is located north of Menteng, is home to the Gambir Railway Station, the National Museum, the National Monument, and the Istiqlal Mosque. This area doesn’t appear to have as many shops as the ones mentioned before. If you don’t need to catch an early train, remaining in Menteng would be the wisest option.

4. Area Nearby the Soekarno-Hatta Airport

Staying close to the airport is probably your best bet if you must depart Jakarta, given the city’s notoriously bad traffic. Accommodations close to Soekarno-Hatta Airport can be found on Traveloka.

To enjoy Jakarta, use taxis, buses, or rented cars. However, be ready for traffic delays, especially during busy times like rush hour or in crowded areas like Kota Tua. Pick a hotel near where you need to go, like where you're meeting others, work locations, or places you want to see. Jakarta has many attractions spread throughout the city.

Find the best deals to visit Jakarta’s top spots, with many options and activities. Pack your bags and use Traveloka to explore places and activities with your loved ones while making priceless memories!
