If you’re headed to Bali, navigating Ngurah Rai International Airport is your first step to a smooth trip. Whether it’s your first time or you’ve been here before, knowing the ins and outs of the airport can save you time and hassle.

We've covered everything you need to know, from getting through customs to accessing the lounges. Let’s get started!

Getting Around the Terminal

When you touch down at Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), you’ll find yourself in the International Terminal. Head over to the Departures area, and you’ll come across 62 check-in counters waiting to get you sorted, along with 10 boarding gates for your flight.

The terminal is laid out in an ‘L’ shape across three floors: Arrivals on the ground floor, Departures on the first, and all the extra facilities on the second floor.

If you pop across Festival Plaza, you’ll end up at the Domestic Terminal, where you can catch flights to other parts of Indonesia. It’s just southeast of the International Terminal.

The Domestic Terminal is spread over two floors: the ground floor for Arrivals and the first floor for Departures and facilities. There are also 62 check-in counters and 8 boarding gates to help you get on your way.

When you land at the airport, you can grab a Visa On Arrival (VOA) by hitting one of the 20 counters on the ground floor. You can get a 7-day visa for USD 10 or a 30-day one for USD 25, so have some U.S. dollars on hand. Also, ensure you’ve got an onward or return ticket, as it’s a must.

Next, you must complete a Customs Declaration (CD). You can do it online through the Electronic Customs Declaration (ECD) system at ecd.beacukai.go.id. You can fill it out up to 2 days before you arrive in Bali, so it’s a good idea to get it done early to skip any last-minute stress.

Just fill out the form on the website, and you’ll get a QR code sent to your email or available for download. When you arrive, show this QR Code to the Customs and Excise officers in the Customs Area.

Claiming Your Baggage

Grabbing your bags at Ngurah Rai International Airport is simple. After immigration, follow the signs pointing you towards the baggage claim area. If the airport’s a bit packed, you might have to wait a while, so it’s worth keeping your cool and being patient.

When your luggage turns up, just grab it from the carousel. If you carry extra oversized items or more than one fancy bottle of alcohol, you’ll have to shell out for taxes. So, unless necessary, you might want to leave those at home.

Reaching and Leaving the Airport

If you’re heading to the city centre from the airport or the other way round, you can choose from three options: bus, taxi, or app-based taxi.

1. Bus

Taking the bus is the cheapest way to get around and perfect for those watching their pennies. Two bus companies run services at the airport to Batubulan, Nusa Dua, and Tabanan.

Find the pick-up area on the ground floor. You can pay the driver when you board—no need for a ticket in advance. Don’t forget to grab some local cash first.

Here are the fares for the different spots.

Batubulan: IDR 3,500
Nusa Dua: IDR 3,500
Tabanan: IDR 7,000

2. Taxi

Taxis are excellent for more comfort, especially if travelling with a group or lots of luggage. Go to the ground floor to sort out a taxi. Tell the officer your destination, and they’ll let you know the set price for your journey.

The fare starts at IDR 120,000 as the base rate, and you’ll pay extra depending on where you’re heading. For all the specifics, have a look at the airport’s website. There’s a waiting fee of IDR 90,000 per hour and IDR 6,500 per km. Just a heads-up: this doesn’t include toll charges, so be prepared for extra costs.

3. App-Based Taxi

Fancy a rideshare? You can catch an online airport taxi—cars and bikes are available. Some authorised companies have apps on Google Play or the App Store.

1.
Download the app. There is no need to stress about language; the apps come in English by default.
2.
After you’ve downloaded the app, enter your journey information.
3.
Then, go to the Arrivals area and wait at the Pick-Up Zone for your ride.
4.
If you get lost, follow the green signs. The staff will help you arrange your ride and give you any information.
