San Vicente Essentials: A Packing Guide for Your Getaway

07 Jan 2020 - 1 min read

Palawan's San Vicente is not your usual beach getaway. For starters, direct flights to San Vicente Airport are scarce, and if you opt to get there via Puerto Princesa or El Nido, you would need to travel several hours by land to get to this slice of paradise.

Haven't booked a flight to San Vicente yet?

Trust us though, all that will be worth it once you see the gorgeous views of this municipality that's slowly becoming more and more popular among beach lovers. It's still relatively off-the-beaten though so don't expect it to be like commercialized beaches where you can buy most of what you need at local shops.

Here's what you need to bring on your trip:

Cash

There are no ATMs or banks in San Vicente, and most establishments do not accept credit or debit card transactions. Make sure you have enough money for your entire stay.

A high-capacity power bank

In some remote areas of San Vicente, electricity is limited to certain hours. If you plan on using multiple gadgets to capture memories of your trip, it wouldn't hurt to pack more than one.

Insect repellent

Sunscreen is a given for beach trips, but you should also pack insect repellent as some beaches in San Vicente are home to mosquitoes and sandflies.

Comfortable and durable flip-flops

Your beach ensemble wouldn't be complete without swimwear, shades, or flip-flops. For footwear, the pair you bring must be durable, as San Vicente is also home to a lot of gorgeous waterfalls. Reaching some of them requires a short trek so make sure your footwear is not flimsy. In short, leave the fancy flip-flops at home.

A reusable water bottle

Help San Vicente stay pristine by lessening your waste. Instead of buying bottled water over and over again, have your bottle refilled at restaurants or your hotel.

A basic first-aid kit and essential medicine

There are no major hospitals in San Vicente, so apart from being extra careful, it is prudent to pack a first-aid kit and basic medicine that will help alleviate cough, colds, fever, flu, and pain. Just make sure to keep the medicine in their original packaging.

Offline entertainment

There are a lot of areas in San Vicente that have a spotty mobile data connection and WiFi, so be prepared to entertain yourself the old-fashioned way. Pack a book and some playing cards to keep yourself from being bored during downtime.

All set and packed up? Have fun in San Vicente!
