Planning an international itinerary? Shanghai Hongqiao Airport (SHA), officially Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, is one of Shanghai’s two passenger airports. Check the airport code and terminal together: a ticket for Shanghai does not by itself tell you which airport or passenger building to use. Terminal 1 handles international and regional flights alongside some domestic services, while Terminal 2 handles domestic journeys. Pudong International Airport is separate and uses PVG. The Hongqiao transport hub includes the airport’s T2 rail connections and nearby Hongqiao Railway Station.

Changing terminals

Metro Line 10 links the stations for T1, T2 and Hongqiao Railway Station. Use the signs for the appropriate station and allow time for the onward terminal steps. Do not assume that the two passenger buildings are joined by a direct walk.

Ground transport at Shanghai Hongqiao Airport

Metro Lines 10 and 2

Line 10 serves the stations for both T1 and T2 and continues to Hongqiao Railway Station. Line 2 serves T2 and provides city connections as well as a connection towards Pudong Airport. Select the metro route that suits your final address, then check any required change rather than choosing a line solely because it serves the airport.

Airport Link Line to Pudong

The Airport Link Line uses the Hongqiao T2 station and connects with Pudong Airport. If you are flying into SHA and out of PVG, include the ground journey and the passenger procedures at the second airport in your connection plan. A rail connection does not guarantee enough time between two flights.

Taxis and city buses

Follow the arrivals taxi signs for the official queue. City bus connections are also available from the terminals; confirm the destination before boarding. Have your final address ready, and plan any onward travel after the bus stop or metro station.

Passenger parking

Parking is available at Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Choose the terminal on your ticket when planning where to leave the car or collect someone. Note the parking location and agree a meeting point after arrival formalities before heading back to the vehicle.

Luggage storage

Baggage storage is available at Hongqiao Airport. Ask airport staff for the current counter and conditions before planning a trip away from the terminal. If you are connecting, first establish whether checked baggage continues to your next flight or needs collection.

Currency exchange is available in T1. Check the transaction conditions before changing money. Terminal 1 also has a lactation room and lifts, and wheelchair assistance is available at the airport. Tell your airline in advance about help needed for the flight or connection, and ask terminal staff for directions to the appropriate facility.

Use the check-in and baggage deadlines supplied by your airline when deciding when to arrive at SHA. Add time for any change from a rail station to the passenger building, and for a terminal change when your itinerary requires it. Check the airport codes again if your return or onward flight uses Pudong.
