What are “Flight Changes” and the Special Recovery Policy?

In Traveloka, passengers are eligible for a Special Recovery Policy from the airline if the change is deemed significant. Before we delve further into the details of this policy, it is important to understand the types of schedule changes made by airlines.

Minor Schedule Changes

Minor Schedule Changes is defined by the airline as a flight change that is not in close proximity to the original departure time, or the time change period is not too wide. Each airline has its own threshold to determine Minor Schedule Changes.

If your flight goes through a Minor Schedule Changes, you can still ask for a refund or reschedule, but it depends on the regular policy (able to refund/reschedule or not). This means you may be required to pay applicable fees for requesting a reschedule or refund, as the airline is not obligated to provide additional compensation.

Major/Significant Schedule Changes & Special Recovery Policy

A Major Schedule Changes refers to a change where the change is deemed significant—each airline has its own policy for determining whether a flight change qualifies as a significant change.  So, it’s possible for a major schedule change to not be classified as a significant change by the airline.

When a significant Major Schedule Changes occurs, passengers may be entitled to a Special Recovery Policy, under which the airline is required to provide compensation—such as a free reschedule or a full refund.
