We had a fabulous stay at Spicers Balfour that lived up to all our expectations of what we have experienced at any of the 3 other Spicers hotels we've stayed in. This one takes the boutique and personal service level up to the next level, with all the staff we dealt with being helpful, easy to deal with, and friendly, ensuring we had a very lovely time there. The room was as shown on the website and although on the slightly small side had everything we needed. The gorgeous little rooftop bar is really special with its beautiful sunset outlook over New Farm & the Story Bridge. The restaurant provided a 5-star meal in a relaxed setting with beautiful, personal service from the waitstaff. The location makes it a park your car and walk/public transport your way to so many entertainment options in the vicinity. Highly recommend the Balfour—we were there for an anniversary "staycation" and it was perfect, and only 15 mins from home.

Travel Guide to Carina

Reaching Carina involves travelling to Brisbane, Australia's gateway to Queensland. For travellers from the United States, flights from major hubs like Los Angeles (LAX) or New York (JFK) typically involve one or two stops, with total journey times ranging from 18 to 24 hours to Brisbane Airport (BNE). European travellers from London (LHR) or Frankfurt (FRA) can expect similar flight durations, often with a stopover in Asia or the Middle East.

Indian travellers from Mumbai (BOM) or Delhi (DEL) will also face long-haul journeys, usually with a stop in Southeast Asia. African travellers from Nairobi (NBO) or Johannesburg (JNB) will find direct or one-stop flights to BNE, though journey times can still be substantial. Brisbane Airport (BNE) is the primary international gateway, with the Airtrain providing efficient transport to the city centre and surrounding areas.

Navigating Carina and its environs is made easy by Brisbane's comprehensive public transport system. The Airtrain connects Brisbane Airport to the city centre and key suburban hubs. Within the city, a network of buses, ferries (including the free CityHopper service along the river), and trains covers most areas. For travellers staying in neighbourhoods like South Brisbane or Fortitude Valley, public transport is highly convenient. A Go Card is recommended for easy payment on most services, with fares generally being affordable, typically ranging from USD 3-10 for most journeys within the city.

Summer (December to February) can be hot and humid with occasional heavy rainfall, while winter (June to August) is mild and dry. Visiting during the shoulder seasons often means fewer crowds and potentially lower hotel prices, offering a better value proposition for international travellers.

Before departing for Carina, ensure you have your passport, which should be valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay in Australia. The local currency is the Australian Dollar (AUD). While credit and debit cards are widely accepted, it's advisable to carry some cash for smaller purchases. Consider purchasing a local SIM card upon arrival at Brisbane Airport for affordable data and calls. Essential apps include Google Maps for navigation, a translation app if needed, and local ride-sharing apps. Confirming any specific entry requirements or travel advisories for Australia is crucial before booking your book flight.

Visa Information for Australia

For international travellers planning to visit Carina, understanding the visa requirements for Australia is essential. US passport holders typically do not require a visa for short tourist stays (up to 90 days) and can enter under the Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) system, which is an online application. European passport holders from countries like the UK, Germany, and France also generally benefit from visa-free entry for short stays, requiring an ETA.

Indian passport holders usually need to apply for an eVisitor visa or an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) depending on the purpose and duration of their visit, with processing times and requirements needing careful attention. For travellers from African nations such as Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa, visa requirements can be more stringent, often necessitating a visitor visa application submitted in advance through the Australian Department of Home Affairs or its designated centres.

The application process for Australian visas varies by nationality. For ETAs and eVisitor visas, applications are typically made online and are relatively quick, often processed within days. Visitor visa applications for Indian and African nationals may require more extensive documentation, including proof of financial means to support your stay, a detailed itinerary, evidence of strong ties to your home country to demonstrate intent to return, and a valid passport with at least six months' validity. Fees for visas can range from approximately USD 20 for an ETA to USD 150 or more for a visitor visa, depending on the type and nationality. Proof of onward travel and confirmed accommodation bookings are often required as part of the application.

Visa policies and requirements are subject to change, and it is imperative for all travellers to verify the most current information directly with the official Australian Department of Home Affairs website or the relevant Australian embassy or consulate in their home country well before their planned travel dates. Confirming your specific visa eligibility and application process based on your nationality is a critical step before booking flights or accommodation to Carina, ensuring a smooth and stress-free journey to Australia.
