Everything excellent as usual. Did order a rump steak one night that was chewy but it may have been me as hubby’s was fine. All staff very friendly and helpful. The best shower in the room!

We had a great time during out 3 night stay at The Esplanade, it is a beautiful building with lots of choice as far as spending time in the bars, restaurants or poolside. The room was stock standard, nothing over the top special, but the bed was very comfortable, it was very roomy. I liked the option to not have the room serviced in exchange for a credit on stay, what a great incentive and makes perfect sense. The bathroom shower floor looked like it needed a good scrub but other than that room was clean. I also liked the Chromecast option on the TV, this gave us the freedom to watch anything that we had access to on our phone, great idea. Location is brilliant and very close to everything.

Overall enjoyed our stay and would return, great location. Nice that it has two pools. some updates around the place would help, the hallways are unique... very long and spread apart.

Great area, close to everything, staff were friendy.
Shower was leaking and had to mop up floors with towels after every shower.. a lot of mould on shower tile grout.. rooms and corridors in desperate need of painting. The shower leak and mould in shower was reported to reception but nothing was done while we were there.

The bed was as old as the hotel and the pillows were like bricks ... almost impossible to sleep.

Lovely Victorian styled property. It is a little dated but charming. Great location - close to restaurants, markets, shopping and beaches. Parking arrangements, eventhough offsite, were very convenient and close to the property. Staff were very helpful.

Inadequate cleaning with a Mouldy bathroom.
Thin walls (you hear way to much noise). Poorly maintained walls (paint missing everywhere).
Rain dripping loudly all night with half the carpet soaked in the morning. Water damaged skirting board indicates that it was not a new issue.

Central location - walking everywhere. However, inadequate staff to handle peak hours where large quantity of cruise passengers arrive and depart. Ridiculously priced for a very old and rundown hotel with out of date facilities. It's 222 Australian dollars for our first night and then 388 dollars for the night before cruise departure. We think the hotel is ripping people off. Do not stay there if you can find any other options. Uber is cheap and convenient in Fremental.

Over the past twenty years we reckon we have stayed at the Espy about 15 times. We are not going to bother again.The Hotel is tired and rough around the edges. The bars are good and the food is okay but the corridors leading to our room were dirty and really off putting. Thankfully our room was clean but outdated. All a bit sad. We loved staying there in the past but looks like we will be looking further afield for our next visit.
