the rooms were very nice. only two elevators and only one worked when i arrived. I was promised an early checkin but when I arrived at 9am to early checkin I was told they were overbooked and couldn't accommodate me. i was exhausted from an overnight flight and wanted to rest. this was not how i wanted to start my few days off

Where do I start? Over the past 40 years I have stayed in numerous hotels, either for work or leisure, and this is the worst example of customer service I have experienced. I booked and prepaid a 4 night stay at the Mercury Centro Santiago in August 2024. After a 13 hour flight from Madrid, we were told that no rooms were available. There were at least 4 other groups of travellers who were given the same information. Initially, there were 2 staff on duty and they were then joined by a Supervisor (Cynthia). Nobody could give us an honest and clear explanation of the situation. One member of staff told us the rooms had been given to other people, then somebody else said it was a “system problem”. It was a scene of complete chaos and extremely poor customer service. After almost a 3 hour wait we ( and the other people affected) were transferred to another hotel (Novotel) for the first night, eventually getting to our room at 01:00, so we had limited sleep that night. We were also told that we would be picked up and returned to the Mercure at 10:00 the following morning. We waited until 10:15 in the hotel lobby and despite several calls to the Mercure (no answer) we made our own transport arrangements with an Uber. I want somebody from the hotel to provide me with a full and detailed explanation of what happened, as well as explain why the hotel does not have a “manual” system in place when the computer system is not working correctly.

Strange ( or lack of) coffee for the kettle in our room. An improvement would be to add a couple of pouches of coffee every day to our kettle area… I was very impressed by the free coffee provided at the reception area very early in the morning for people leaving early or on early guided tours! Good reception staff

Central location but bit dodgy outside. Nice shower but had mould on ceiling. The pool was nice to chill by. It gets sun from around 11am until 4pm for sunbathing. They have a bar there as well which does food. The cleaning of the rooms is really bad. Big sized room

The front desk staff was not friendly and did not help in rectifying the mistake they made in booking our room as we paid extra for a room with a view and instead were given a room with no view right beside another building. They would not even provide complimentary breakfast. We love Santiago but will never stay at Mercure again.
