Amarla Boutique Hotel Cartagena

I had high expectations for this hotel based on reviews, it turned out to be a big disappointment. Our 3 night reservation made through the hotel was cancelled, I’ve travel for business for the last 20 years and this has never happened before. According to them, it was cancelled because the card was declined even though I had received confirmation. They sent me an e mail informing me about the cancelation but I never saw it since it was sent to an e mail address I don’t check regularly. When asked why didn’t they call me since they had my cell number on file, they said they were not allowed to make international calls. They never bother to check that I had another reservation for 1 night through Expedia and a meeting scheduled to meet with the event planner of the hotel as I was planing on renting the hotel for an event in June. Claudia at the reception desk tried helping us find another hotel. We stayed one night with the Expedia reservation and the next day found hotel Casa de Alba which was FANTASTIC, booked right away and the card was NOT declined. When checking out, I met George who was rude and seemed to be annoyed, to make things worse, the safe deposit would not open and none of the keys that George provided to open the safe would work which made him more unpleasant to deal with. Oto, another employee, came and was very kind and helpful, he promised to call a lock Smith to open the safe and bring our things to the other hotel. I do not recommend this hotel.

Great location close to everything. Property feels removed from hustle and bustle while being close to jt all. A true oasis

Beautiful Architecture, and wonderful staff.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at this incredible hotel in Cartagena, located right in the heart of the Walled City, and I can’t express enough how amazing my experience was. From the moment my husband and I arrived, the staff made me feel like family—everyone was so friendly, attentive, and genuinely eager to ensure we had the best stay possible. The level of service here is truly outstanding. The highlight of the hotel, in my opinion, is the rooftop. The views are absolutely breathtaking—perfect for watching the sunset over the historic city or enjoying the cool breeze in the evening. It's a beautiful, relaxing spot where you can unwind and take in the spectacular surroundings. Make sure to book a massage, you won’t be disappointed! The breakfast each morning was another standout. A fantastic spread of fresh fruit, delicious pastries, local specialties, and perfectly brewed coffee made each morning something to look forward to. Every little detail of the hotel was clearly thought out to ensure guests are comfortable and well taken care of, and we couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay during our time in Cartagena. I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area. You won't be disappointed! We are planning to go back to have our wedding reception at Amarla! Thank you to everyone who made this vacation so special and enjoyable.

I joined a friend there and we found the hotel to be a calm oasis after the busy streets of Cartagena! It was aesthetically pleasing and comfortable. The staff were exceptionally kind and helpful. Delicious breakfast. A most enjoyable experience.

We had a wonderful stay in the bedroom/loft room. Great, comfortable stay. Located on a street near all the bars and restaurants so everything is walkable and safe but far enough away that it isn't too loud at night.

I absolutely recommend this hotel and it’s 4 star excellent staff w my eyes closed. It was an amazing experience. My first time in Cartagena and the staff was remarkable. They helped us find great tours , restaurants, and shops. I am so grateful for the staff especially Dorean!!! He is an absolute gem. It is a small, beautiful, colonial property with wonderful staff (front desk, doormen, cleaners, waiters). Everyone went out of their way to make me feel welcome and safe. The bfast was very good, the coffee strong (a french press, no espresso), and the restaurant has a good ceviche. I worked on my laptop in the courtyard one afternoon and it was amazingly peaceful and productive. The actual room, however, could be improved. The shower temperature was lukewarm to cool (which given the temps outside might be a relief to most), the wash basin hardware is unsightly and should be replaced, and real bathrobes and slippers would be a nice touch (the silky Asian robes might suit some, but gave the wrong vibe, personally). The rooms have a large TV with cable and streaming capacity, and a really great cooling system. It was a great relief. But...maybe because it worked so well, I would have preferred more than the sparse bedding provided. Some high-grade sheets and thin comforter would go a long way. I appreciated that the hotel is wonderfully located, in the thick of it, but still is quiet and serene once you cross threshold; it was a sanctuary. Some historic information and recommended walking itineraries at the ready would be a great idea.

Excellent location, quiet room in center and great food and service

The best hotel ever! we decided to celebrate our wedding in Amarla and stayed with our families for 10 days. it was just FABULOUS! The service was incredible, nice and super helpful people. The hotel is gorgeous, the breakfast are fantastic! can't wait to go back!

This stay was a beautiful hotel and the staff was so helpful and kind! We enjoyed our stay so much! From the beautiful lobby, great food, lovely room, & beautiful rooftop area with pool!! This is a beautiful place & we would highly recommend!!!

We’ve travelled extensively, and this hotel is perfection. An oasis is the bustle of Cartagena. It feels like the hotel is your private luxury home. It’s honestly a preferable option than an Airbnb. The hotel is blessed with kind, attentive and expert staff. Superb Colombian breakfasts served poolside daily, many beautiful quiet nooks to relax and read. Would highly recommend to anyone new (or not!) to Cartagena.

The hotel is amazing, the room has beautiful and unique decor and exceeded my expectations. We had the most delicious breakfast, our server Veronica was excellent. The location is the best , within two blocks you can find the best restaurants .
