Catalonia Royal La Romana - All Inclusive - Adults Only

The service was terrible and the food was mediocre. Furthermore, the attitude of the staff was atrocious and disrespectful. The cups, cutlery, and plates were dirty and smelled putrid from being either unwashed or poorly washed. Not to mention, the drinks were insulting while the only worthwhile enjoyment was the beach for how clean and clear it was. In conclusion, there are much better hotels in Dominican Republic compared to this one.

The staff is very rude and they take their time to wait on you. Unlike Punta Cana with the staff is extremely helpful and friendly. The maintenance in the grounds are impeccable. My wife got food poisoning the last day. The biggest problem with this resort is the staff. Very unwelcoming and very unfriendly.

This resort has the most beautiful beach you could ever find. Unfortunately, this is the only reason the come here. The other amenities are good but are just like any other resort. The food is also just okay. In fact, during our stay we got very sick from the food for two days. Outside of the beach, swimming, sailing, scuba diving and snorkeling their is not more to do or see here.

Place is good, but personnel could be better. The best by far was our cleaning lady, who was always happy to help us in any way she could. However, to have a rather "standard" service when you paid for a premium one, really does not go according to expectations (or even what was promised). It was good, but we will not be back. There are better options for the same price, and even some cheaper alternatives too.

I like the beach which was one of the best we have ever been to. Food is not the greatest. Service in some restaurants is slow.

Food poorly done!

The place is amazing especially the beach!

We enjoyed our 5- night stay at this hotel. Our duplex room with private pool had everything we wished for and even more ! The maid provided the necessary services. We spend time on the beach with white sand and turquoise water .. had diving and snorkelling tours .. had fine dining in the hotel’s restaurants . Minor inconvenience were loud evening shows. Although some guests enjoyed entertainment, we would prefer this activity would not be next to the private guest rooms.

Pros A good beach and excellent swimming. Lots of trees and well-kept vegetation, lots of birds. Good selection of alcohol. Quick response from the front desk to requests or complaints. Cons Almost complete lack of knowledge of English, poor training of employees, familiarity, instead of service constant loud conversations with each other, over the heads of guests. So-called music thundered from everywhere, literally killing guests privacy. The quality of food is below average, we had to change dishes several times. Once in a restaurant, appetizers and main courses were served to us at the same time. There is no knowledge and professionalism in making cocktails. Monstrous taste in interior designs and furniture.

good place to relax

I stayed at Adult only side. Property was well maintained,clean in every area. Staffs were very polite,warm & accommodating in every section. Food was excellent at the buffet as well as a la carte restaurants, specially at Beloved restaurant, superb dishes & service. Beach was kept clean daily by ground staffs & multiple staffs from cafes on the beach delivered drinks,water to guests with amazing manner. I've been going to this area for over a decade in different hotels but Catalonia Royal is by far better than any others, even better than much higher cost place like Hilton La romana. Looking forward to going back soon.

Long review but I hope someone finds it helpful. The Room: we had a swim up suite. The room was well kept and clean. There was no hair dryer but you can request one. The "mini bar" consisted of sprite coke and 2 very small beers. The "snacks" consisted of 2 small packs of peanuts and one pack of oreos. They replaced the peanuts but not the oreos. The shower had wonderful water pressure. They have shower gel and conditioning shampoo - no actual conditioner. The AC worked really well. The bed was extremely hard so not what I prefer but if you like feeling like you're sleeping on a sheet of plywood this is the bed for you. Our room was right next to the Plaza which meant we got to listen to the thumping music all night. Not a huge deal except on the nights we had to be up early the next day for excursions. The pool was smaller than I'd of expected but still okay. Note they do not have any complimentary floaties so bring your own pool loungers. The Food: the food was about 50/50. Some was very tasty and great. Some was just horrible, I even had to send some back and order something else which is extremely rare for me. For my personal preference, there were not enough options for food and the hours kind of suck. Dinner requires a reservation which also in my opinion, sucks. 1 because I'm on vacation I don't want to plan every moment of my day and 2 if we had food that was gross it's not like you can just hope over to a different restaurant to eat something different. Staff and service were great. Property was clean/family friendly resort next door.

Beautiful resort with nice & friendly staff members. Room was always cleaned and restocked. Shade huts at beach are normally taken by 6:30am & Buffett food is good, just gets boring if you forget to make dinner reservations. If you like a laidback, relaxing resort then book!

Everyone was so friendly and attentive. Will definitely come back. This was a solo trip and I felt so much welcomed. It is not the place to meet someone is a lot of couples and families. Top place to relax and recharge.
