The hotel disappoints as soon as you arrive. No curb appeal- Hotel split into various buildings annexes. It is more like a motel. Parking limited & crammed. Given a family room in an Annex at back of hotel which was by the laundry facilities & bin disposal, room accessed by dark steep damp smelling staircase to loft room. ( nightmare if u have small kids & cases) Only velux windows so no view, cold room with useless heater which flashed all night , a thin, old carpet , some wall & bathroom lights not working, shower arm fell off in my hand when tried to use & water flooded on to bathroom floor from cubicle which had mold in the corner- whole room depressing & claustrophobic . I asked if any other room was available & was told by miserable staff ‘no we are full ‘. The breakfast area was not big enough for all the guests. Only 1 coffee machine which we had to queue for. On check out we were offered a refund on our parking (£25) which then created a dispute over the card we used to pay for this which did not correspond with their system. Literally want to forget I was ever there!

The toilet did not flush in our room. Basic amenities I would have considered standard. Saddened that a treat for my mum was Sub Standard. Not the usual Hilton experience I have had elsewhere.

I stayed for my 40th birthday and i was really unhappy with my stay. Upon entering the room, the vanity table was broken and the table top was flaking away exposing the MDF. The wardrobe had mis-matching handles. The divan base had stains on and the night switch wasnt working. The chair had stains all over it. In the bathroom the towel holder was broken off, the bath leaked, the base of the bath was filthy and broken. The sink was dirty with the cold sign missing off the tap. I have pictures of it all. I think that its terrible that we were put in a room so bad in the first place. We did complain and the receptionist spoke to managment who knocked some money off, but it really spoilt things as we were only there for 1 nite. Management didnt come to speak to us and didnt seem concerned about the long list of faults. For a hotel that has such a good reputation, i definitely wouldnt recommend and would not stay there again.

The first room I slept in for one night was on ground floor bed 3 feet away from pavement it was surreal felt like there was people in the room and 3 lanes of traffic couldn’t sleep it was very dated and carpet was filthy. I spoke to Hazel who was brilliant she upgraded my room and the second night was far more pleasant. I don’t think Room 70 should be used or if it is customers should be warned of limitations.

Probably the worst hotel room I’ve ever stayed in - very little lighting, lights tripped off, power sockets don’t work, creaking floor boards, on busy main road lots of traffic noise, sofa bed had springs poking out very uncomfortable

Anna on reception was first rate….. allowed an early check in and went out of her way to ensure we had a good stay. Location is perfect for exploring York, near the Minster and walking distance to all attractions and bars.

We have visited this hotel on many occasions, from when it was the Best Western Monk Bar. Much has changed since then. However it is still a friendly welcoming (if somewhat corporate affair). My only criticisms on this visit were:Lack of fried eggs in the morning - eventually one turned up on a plate a lovely lady had taken to keep warm. Mu second egg came later and had obviously beendone in a rush as it was a little "snotty". On my last visit the bar was poor - with a can of Guinness not beiong used as it had frozen at the back of the fridge, surely a sign of poor stock rotation. Bar staff were all over the pace, but no real empathy with the customer. Didn't use the bar on this occasion, instead getting mildly enlivened at the Old Starre in town. Didn't dine in either - preferring an excellent steak at "Caesar's" a 5 minute walk away. Overall the hotel was comfortable - had a nice upfrade to a De Luxe room with a lovely big bed and large TV. Good bathroom with a hiot tap which turned on the wrong way(!). Thanks for the welcome "cookie" - in Egland these are generally called "biscuits"... We came by bus, which was a boobn as car parking in York centre is horrendous and expensive. Overnight at the hotel it's "5.00 for the night on a first come basis, and even with the Councikl car park it's £14.50.

We have stayed here a few times previously and the breakfast has been great.
