Mercure Newcastle George Washington Hotel Golf & Spa

I stay here a lot for work - it is always lovely.

Booked in 3.30am due ti flight into Newcastle. Room warm. Slept with window open which cooled nicely. Guy on desk really helpful. 8 minutes from front desk to being asleep. Breakfast good choice.

It was ok the bar closed too early

Booked 2 rooms and when i showed up i was told only 1 room was available and that there was nothing they can do in terms of a refund.

The room was large and clean. The bed was comfortable but the breakfast wasn't up to standard for people with dietary requirements such as gluten free or vegetarian. The Carter and Fitch restaurant was good with great options for peoplw with restricted diets. The pool area was small and could get crowded if 6 or more people were in it but it was clean and well maintained. Overall it was a nice stay but the hotel wasn't quite at the standard I would expect for 4 star.

The room was very good , nice clean and roomie , only problem i had i could not get a table in the restaurant on Thursday night untill 2030 which is to late to eat , therr should be reserved tables for guests . Very disappointed

Broken and dangerous plug sockets, No working tv. High end price tag, should be b&b prices

Absolute horror show from start to finish. Checked in and the room was the noisiest place in Washington. It was right next to some huge fans to the outside window which were like an aeroplane taking off. On asking to be moved I was told they were in the process lf selling electricity back to the grid and that is the noise. Great. I was offered another room but these were standard not upgraded so no air con and boiling hot. Decided best to stay in the noisy room and then discovered the shower was in such poor condition the what just went sidewards out of the shower head and to top it off there was no hot water meaning I had to have a cold shower.

When I checked in someone was asleep in my room, I was then told I was “lucky” that there was one room left available in the hotel… as though I should have been thankful for the error. Rooms were ridiculously hot, left uncomfortable through the night. Walls paper thin, if you’re nosey and like to listen to other people’s conversations this is the hotel for you Wouldn’t rush back.

Clean, spacious, well-maintained hotel. Comfortable rooms with 50-inch TV, air-conditioning and a small fridge.

Some rooms don’t have AIR-CONDITIONING, and this was not clear on the advert. Also, they don’t CLEAN/ NEW TOWELS/BED SERVICES (HOUSE KEEPING), unless, stying over 3 nights!!! Extremely over priced!!!

The room was extremely hot, there was no windows, a fan or air conditioning

I was quiet disappointed with the breakfast selection..hardly any fruit selection. No gluten free options on the bread and pastry selection was extremely poor

Great room, spacoius, nicely furnhised and very pleasant to spend time there. Great bathroom and well worth the money.
