Lovely old country inn, dont expect marriot type modern corporate sterility. What you do get is an old world building with warts and all, fabulous character brilliant welcome and a refreshing can do attitude from all of the staff. We were attending a wedding innthe village and had a really great stay here. Highly recommend for comfort, charm, and welcoming staff. Brilliant.

Room reminded me of the 80s. Bathroom was awful. Shower was linked to bath taps and was scolding hot or cold. Thick old silicone around the top of the bath, old piece of vinyl that must have been laid 20 years ago. Room used a macerator which was noisy and both bath and basin were plumbed into. Even the mugs were dirty. Not impressed given the previous reviews.

The pub and food down stairs was very good, however the accommodation was awful, no heating in the room, we was supplied a electric oil rad which was totally inadequate, the bedroom was dirty along with the bathroom, there was flies constantly in the room and dead ones on the bed when you woke up in the morning. The bathroom was all mouldy and there was dark long hair all stuck on the wall in in the shower the light fitting was full of dead flies just a very bad experience in general regarding the overnight accommodation. I would say that the owners have only recently taken over the business and the pub and food was very good, but the rooms should not be let out until some drastic changes have been made to them.

Both rooms we were going to stay in before we decided to leave were in a poor state of repair. Both rooms were damp with black mould. We understand it’s a very old property, however as I am Asthmatic I felt I couldn’t stay the night. The rooms just need some upgrade from the owner.

Lovely real ale country pub with rooms. Very rustic but with all home comforts and little extras. Great view over countryside with cows grazing nearby. Breakfast freshly cooked and generous portions. Used as overnight stay following wedding at Crowcombe court (5 mins walk) but also great for walkers etc exploring the Exmoor area. Highly recommend

4 of us stayed at the Carew Arms for one night to break our journey. The best description is that there is no attempt to disguise or mask the pub's age or history, which is a definite plus. It has the feel of a pub that has stood at the heart of the village for 5 centuries, and still serves it's local community as it always has. The food is simple but hearty, and the snug bar is comfortable, with some excellent local ales. Recommended!

This is a very old pub in a relatively poor state of repair. While I understand the difficulties associated with any attempt to modernise what is probably a listed building, there can be no excuse for the somewhat dilapidated state of the hotel. My room was clean and quite spacious, but in need of decoration and some design changes e.g. it needed at least one chair and a better place to hang one’s clothes. The bathroom was in an adjacent room and was clean and functional, but several of the fittings were damaged and needed repair or replacement. The breakfast was excellent and good value for money. The staff were all friendly and helpful. One guest had used the word “quirky” in the guest comments book. I certainly agree with that. It could be so much more.

Lovley old pub full of character, friendly family running it, good local bees and ciders, excellent food reasonably priced, as you would expect from the Routiers badge. A real find so we hope to return often. Yes, because it is old, the decor and things like the windows are far from modern, but who cares? We hate places that are spic and span, "perfect" or "luxury". If that's what you want, with impersonal obsequious service, go somewhere else.

A historic and picturesque pub and my room no.4 was spacious with an en-suite bathroom featuring a bath and shower. On a quiet street in the village with a large garden. I reported the hit tap in the wash basin was loose and 2 of 3 bulbs in the central light weren't working (I'm sure this will have been rectified quickly).
