Shangri La Yanuca Island Fiji

My visit to Shagri-La in June 2025 was my first visit to Fiji & my first resort experience. And it was a delight. As I am sure is the same at every Fiji resort, the staff were lovely, friendly, helpful & hard working. The facilities were great - not state of the art & brand spanking new - but as advertised and equivalent to the rates paid. Highly recommend to stay at adults only end to anyone travelling w/o children given the access to the quiet pool, the reef, & away from the noise & family chaos. Yes, it is a bit more of a walk (or buggy ride) to the restaurants etc but is worth it! Having said that, the rooms were quiet & you couldn’t hear your neighbours unless out on the balcony or if someone walked noisily past your door. The breakfast buffet was fabulous but if you are desperate for a ‘proper’ coffee, not the filtered variety, you will need to show a level of patience. This is not a Melbourne barista cafe but rather operates on Fiji time. Having said that, you are here to relax & enjoy, so what’s the rush?! It didn’t bother me that I was pretty much finished breakfast by the time my coffee arrived each morning, but I could see others were annoyed. Can highly recommend the Indian restaurant, and BBG was also fab & those two had the best service. The Asian restaurant you do need to book early. What’s not well known is that the reef is just out your door. Put on a snorkel & put your head underwater & be amazed by the sea life where the water is knee deep

This was our 9th visit and once again we can't wait to return.The staff were excellent and we love the atmosphere of the reef wing in particular where we stayed . the breakfasts at Golden Cowie excellent and the dining at the Indian res turant at the Black Marlin was out of this world .

Great spot!

Quiet and friendly staff except the front reception. Reception staff communicating in their language while I was inquiring about a charge and I parked in front entrance without blocking anyone, I was told to move it from the shade while my 2 year old and partner were in the car with a/c on, even though I mentioned it won't take long as I an checking out and got a flight to catch.

The staff was very helpful, hospitable and friendly. We didn't find out until late in our trip that there's an adult only side to the resort (our only complaint)

Very warm hospitality. Great staff.great place for families with littled kids to have fun and relax. Kids club and daily kids disco were our favourites along with amazing food and comfortable stay.

Beautiful grounds and beach.Room was clean and well maintained.Staff very friendly and polite. They charged my card, but nobody knew what was it for, so I had to cancel my card and dispute charges.

We stayed in the Reef Wing and the staff were amazing. Cocktail hour is fun. The spa is great and enjoyed my golf lesson - will keep practicing! The Indian restaurant was excellent and the Golden Crowie is always a great adults only option. You go to Fiji to relax and you need to wind down to truly enjoy the Fiji experience.

Bula, We had booked 2 rooms at Shangri-La: Plusses: 1. Amazing food. They had great combinations of multiple cuisine at the Lagoon Terrace and the food was yum! 2. Breathtaking views from the ocean viewing room. 3. The resort itself had an amazing vibe and everything one would need to keep yourself and kids entertained. 4. Cultural show was cherry on top of the cake 5. Staff were so nice and so welcoming. They go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable and memorable. Cant thank them enough. They even helped me celebrate my wife’s birthday and it was an amazing celebration! Cons: 1. Rooms looked tired and definitely needed attention. Broken sink, non functional exhaust and overall vibe of the room itself could be better. 2. My payment was deducted twice accidentally which was later rectified but I got a hefty international transaction fee for the wrong payment which was made through my credit card company. Although, the staff was very kind and proactive in reversing the payment, these kind of faults are kind of not expected from 5 star facility like this. Overall, we wish to come back again and again every year provided they freshen the rooms a bit and make them a bit more welcoming. Also, not to forget we were fortunate to meet the Executive Chef Arnorld who was such an amazing person and so enthusiastic to work towards any improvements that they can make. The staff was the biggest plus of the trip. They were always friendly and happy to greet you. The food was good and the property had plenty of things to do.

The resort is located on a small island close to the main island. The environment is beautiful, the facilities are complete, and all the service staff are very friendly. The sea is clear and suitable for snorkeling. The Italian restaurant is worth recommending. The service and dishes in the restaurant are very good. During the stay, due to the large number of tourists in the resort, sometimes the service was delayed, but the enthusiastic service of the waiters made up for it all. This is a destination suitable for family vacations.

Property is tired and requires considerable updating. Putt golf is dilapidated and requires significant update. Overpriced considering its present dilapidated state. Staff are excellent. Less than hospitable first impression at check in but perhaps just an “off” day for our host.

Shangri-La Yanuca Island has evolved since I was there 30 years ago. The people are the same, beautiful, friendly, kind and amazing. The hotel however misses on a couple of things. Unless you are sitting in the lobby, there is no Fijian music played anywhere. In the morning at breakfast there is some lovely music in the Takali restaurant played by some Fijians on guitar but that is really all. Next there is no Fijian food unless you pay ridiculous prices to go to a show and even then it's mostly European food with a little Lovo through in. For me this was really disappointing. We come to see and experience Fiji, not eat Asian food or burgers and chips. A crayfish that you can buy in Australia for $40 costs $300 Fijian. Luckily we know people at nearby villages so went there to eat and experience all the wonder that Fiji has to offer. Shangri-La Yanuca Island needs to remember it's roots back when it was the Fijian Hotel and go back to offering a truly Fijian experience. Kava tasting and torch lighting are awesome. Just need more of this!

Adults only area was nice and relaxing. Staff was spectacular and everybody was very helpful.
