What Guests Say About Their Stay

I had a lovely stay here and would come again. I will say that while the property is clean and the staff take care of it, it does need a little lick of paint here and there but overall it is a beautiful location and a true place to relax and recoup. I was disappointed that there wasn't yoga classes as posted, but I was able to book a private class with a teacher, who was great. Booked with their masseuse a few times as she was WONDERFUL (Rose if I remember rightly) Handy swimming pool right outside my room (salt). And a little general store on site which after realizing that Plakias is a 15min drive away, was good to have on hand. Scuba diving in the cove was gorgeous and there was a little spot you could jump straight into the ocean near the main pool. The cove is not the beach however, the walk to the beach is about 20 minutes and up some very steep stairs. The view is amazing, but I'd recommend wearing solid walking shoes as there is loose gravel/rocks and the drop to the ocean is sheer. The entertainment was mediocre to be honest, and the location would benefit from a karaoke night in my opinion. All-inclusive does not include all drinks, beer and wine only. But the food was decent enough to not bother going into the town except for a treat. Great nudist beach nearby in Plakias, with regular beach down the road. Lovely little town.

Lovely location. Nice resort, though a little dated and some degree of shabbiness. But the food was generally good, service excellent, the room was nice. We enjoyed our time here and would visit again.

The photos are VERY misleading. The beach on the property was beautiful. Friendliness was a mixed experience-1-2 very nice, most ambivalent/neutral, one unpleasant type of situation. 2 pools were open; they had lots of green algae growing on the walls. Rooms were extremely dated, but clean enough. The beds were HARD AS ROCKS. The literal hardest mattress I have ever slept on. There was a mini fridge. Nothing to make coffee or tea in the room. Water is 1 euro. It’s a drive to get there. Food was ok. We were on our honeymoon, with plans to go hike the Sumerian gorge the next day, but rerouted to the Kalypso due to its proximity to where we were, because of heavy rains in a sudden storm we got caught in. Roads were unsafe, and it was a place to go for a night while the storm passed. Thankfully we were only there for an afternoon and morning. It would have been a depressing trip if we’d had to stay multiple nights. We’re honestly confused by the positive reviews…

This must have been an amazing all inclusive resort in the 1950s which appears to be the last time it was repaired. Still has great amenities like pools, scuba, food, yoga and entertainment but the rooms and facilities are pretty rundown and outdated. Still a good deal for the all inclusive stuff available if you can overlook that.

The pools and outside space are lovely at its very picturesque but the room was very dated and the bathroom was in poor condition with glass slats missing. The air-conditioning is old and struggled to cool the size of room. The shampoo and shower gel dispenser was broken when i contacted reception the receptionist was unhelpful. People smoke everywhere and even an employee who has a room in a no smoking area thinks it ok with children around.

Room : 0 cleanliness i had the bungalow room , it was dust everywhere , mini bar looks like it was never clean for years to be honest , the bathroom was quiet okay. Restaurant : the quality of the foods was really poor , there was flies everywhere , you couldn’t identify what was what because there was no sign or no identification. Spa : it was a let down when we walk to the spa to spa table was disgusting, there was no privacy at all my it’s across of the gym , i don’t know should be calm a gym at all , it’s completely empty. Bar : it’s quiet okay they have a good selection of drinks , definitely enjoy it Overall this place have so much potential to be great , the views is amazing , they really have to step up ! the pool is amazing , the bathroom pool not at all they should have someone 24/7 there to keep it cleaning it. The staff is very friendly and helpful they help and told where i should go eat outside of the resort …… they shouldn’t call this place a resort because they have only 1 restaurants beside the view they have nothing to offer lol

Lovely setting with its own private cove perfect for snorkeling and swimming. Stunning to look at! Rooms are average. Whole place needs a bit of an upgrade.. front desk lady was rude and not helpful at all.. Buffet breakfast is very good, but they seem short staffed so get there early to eat, avoid the crowd and the shortages of certain things. 1 swimming pool is closed, the ‘gym’ is a treadmill, a couple dumbbells and a pull up bar that is falling off the wall (dangerous). $10 to rent an umbrella and 2 sunbeds at the cove.

Our stay at Kalypso in October 2018, was very good. We really used the hotel as a base for the local area, you need to be aware that it is not in walking distance from Plakias and about 40 minutes walk from the nearest beaches, so a hire car is essential. Plakias is 8 Euro each way in a taxi. We had an initial problem in that due to a recent storm, the hotel was overbooked. This resulted in us being allocated a poor standard room for a night. This was rectified the next day. The initial receptionist was helpful, but just showed us the room without telling us why it was so bed, resulting in our request to be upgraded to what we had booked. All other staff in the hotel were very good and friendly. Our new room was great, cleaned daily, with a sea view and a balcony. The bed was comfortable. We did not use the pools, but swam a few mornings in the lagoon area, which again was good. I cannot comment on the hotel entertainment. I would not use the hotel again, due to the need for taxis if you are to have a drink in one of the local village restaurants as 16 Euro is a big increase on a 30 to 50 Euro meal.

Beautiful grounds, pool and views. No wifi in rooms, only intermittent in common areas. Warned by staff that water is not drinkable and should use bottled. TV in room was 12 inches and seemed like salvaged from hospital rooms 15-20 years ago..To get to spa/gym, needed to climb up 200 steps up muntain. Staff were not friendly or very helpful. If driving, if you miss a small sign, you will get lost and the gps will not help since roads are un-named. VERY dark and winding roads to facility.

Really enjoyed our stay. The girls on reception desk were particularly helpful to me on several occasions. Hard workers. Nice breakfasts. 3 separate Swimming Pools so you could still swim even if some guests had turned the main pool into a noisy Water Polo pitch most of the day. Nearby Plakias not too touristy, but offers just enough to wander around a couple of nights. 10-12 Taverners, 10 -12 other shops. Nice beaches. We did the walk from hotel to Plakias beach. Not an hour, more like 90 minutes and quite testing. Need to be fit. We were wearing just sandals and shorts, but some people coming the opposite way were geared up with what looked like Mountaineering sticks and clothing. Didn't see any snakes, spiders or scorpions.

For the time it takes to drive to it (1h30m on not the best roads from Chania airport...) it certainly delivers once you arrive there! Go for the all-inclusive option if you're provided with the option, you will not regret it. We were on "full breakfast and full dinner" where we did expect to also get a free alcoholic drink, apparently not included. The views are stunning. Don't restrict yourself to staying by the (3) pools. There's lots to see around, the hotel grounds are immense! Staff (reception, bar, cleaning) are lovely and (mostly) helpful.

The hotel is in a very pretty place, with no other hotels nearby, which means that the stay is peaceful, calm and without any traffic noise. No sunbed booking as there are enough of them for everyone and an amazing view when having dinner or breakfast. Highly recommended!

This hotel is well worth a visit for a short amount of time. Before you set of I would advise researching the journey. The roads aren't the best and sometimes get extremely narrow. However, on arrival you will be impressed with your surroundings. There is plenty of room for parking cars and you are greeted with some fabulous views. When I'm reception the staff are friendly and informative. The wifi is only accessible in reception and isn't great. The swimming pools are in good condition and offer some good views too. There is also an area where you can get into the sea! Bringing a snorkel along is advisable and there is plenty of opportunity to explore. For those more active there are some great walks and activities put on by the hotel. Where this hotel falls short is their accommodation. The rooms are clean and spacious but very dated. The bathroom and kitchen area was in need of some major TLC! The tv is also very dated and barely works. If spending anytime in the room then bring along your own entertainment. The restaurant is also very basic. They offer a buffer for breakfast and dinner but the quality of food wasn't the best. Although there was lots to choose from if you have a choice I would venture into a different town/ village. The bar area was good and offered a wide selection of drinks which were very reasonably priced. Overall, we felt this was a good short stay and would come back if in the area.

Our room was absolutely awful nothing like the pictures, the scenery and pools were very beautiful but the whole experience was ruined by the state of cleanliness of our room. Told the hotel staff about our problems no one was willing to help. There was a dumped trolley with rubbish in it outside our room too which was very displeasing for the eye.
