Don't be fooled by its small size. This hotel is excellent. Excellent service, fast WhatsApp response, guaranteed security, and a comfortable hotel. If the front parking is full, you can park in the back. In fact, it's great because it's very spacious.

We stayed overnight at BeOne, choosing the largest room type so it was very comfortable for our family including children. With a fairly cheap price, we got a room with 4 beds & a soft sofa and a large TV, clean bathroom. The application does not include breakfast, it's just that we were served free breakfast by the hotel. Thank you BeOne, if you go to Jogja, Ki will definitely come back here according to the children's request 😊.

It was a great experience staying here! The room was clean and spacious, it has great outdoor areas, very near with Gamestory Caffee which served flavorful tea and gameboard. The breakfast was superb, they served nasi bakar and various traditional snacks. Thus, a hearty meal accompanied by juice, fresh fruit, and tea. My only suggestion to improve was the kitchen area most likely had a gas leakage as we could smell it if nearing the stove area, but the staff was very helpful and immediately provided a portable stove instead. Highly recommend if you seek traditional Javanese accommodation!

More about hotels in Kalasan

Discover Kalasan: A Cultural Crossroads in Indonesia

Kalasan, a region located within the varied mix of Indonesia, offers a unique blend of historical significance and accessible charm that appeals to a diverse range of international travellers. While Indonesia itself is a vast archipelago renowned for its natural beauty and cultural depth, Kalasan provides a concentrated experience, particularly for those interested in ancient Javanese heritage and a more localized, yet well-connected, travel experience. It serves as an excellent gateway to the cultural heartland of Yogyakarta, offering a more tranquil base away from the immediate bustle of the larger city, yet remaining within easy reach of its attractions.

The character of Kalasan is not monolithic; it unfolds across distinct neighbourhoods, each offering a different facet of the region's appeal. From areas surrounding ancient temples to more modern residential zones and those close to key transport hubs, choosing where to base yourself within Kalasan can significantly shape your journey. This internal diversity means that travellers can tailor their stay to their specific interests, whether that's deep immersion in history, convenient access to amenities, or a peaceful retreat. Understanding these nuances is key to unlocking the full potential of a visit to this captivating Indonesian locale.

For the international traveller, Kalasan presents an exceptional value proposition. With accommodation starting as low as USD 6.00 per night and an overall review score of 8.6 from over 4,452 guests, the region offers an accessible entry point into Indonesian culture and history. This affordability is particularly attractive to travellers from markets like India, where budget-conscious family travel is common, and also to European visitors seeking extended stays without prohibitive costs. Even for long-haul travellers from the United States, the value allows for greater flexibility in their travel budgets, enabling more exploration.

The accommodation landscape in Kalasan mirrors this accessibility and variety. From the highly-rated VRATA Hotel Yogyakarta, known for its amenities and excellent guest feedback, to the budget-friendly Premier Guest House, which consistently garners positive reviews, there is a spectrum of options. These establishments, along with many others, provide a tangible sense of the quality and range available. For those looking to secure their stay, exploring options on Traveloka allows for easy comparison and booking, ensuring a smooth start to any Kalasan adventure.

Kalasan is a destination that thoughtfully caters to a global audience. For travellers from the United States, it offers a chance to explore a less-trodden path of Indonesian history, providing a rich cultural counterpoint to more common Southeast Asian itineraries. European visitors, with their keen interest in history and culture, will find the proximity to ancient temples and the region's authentic Javanese atmosphere particularly rewarding. Indian families will appreciate the affordability, the availability of Halal food options, and the ease of connectivity. For travellers from African nations, Kalasan's position within Indonesia can offer insights into a developing Asian economy and a rich cultural heritage, often with convenient flight connections through regional hubs.

Best Areas to Stay in Kalasan

Kalasan, while a distinct region, is comprised of several neighbourhoods, each offering a unique atmosphere and set of advantages for international visitors. Understanding these areas is crucial for selecting the perfect base that aligns with your travel style, interests, and budget. Whether you prioritize proximity to ancient wonders like Sambisari Temple and Kalasan Temple, seek vibrant local life, or desire a tranquil escape, Kalasan's diverse districts ensure a tailored experience for every traveller.

Around Kalasan Temple and Sambisari Temple

This area is the historical and spiritual heart of Kalasan, drawing visitors with its proximity to two of Java's most significant ancient sites. The atmosphere here is one of reverence and historical depth, with the majestic Kalasan Temple and the intricate Sambisari Temple serving as focal points. For travellers from Europe, particularly those with a strong interest in archaeology and ancient civilizations, this district offers an unparalleled immersion into Indonesia's rich past. The pace of life is generally slower, allowing for contemplative exploration.

Accommodation here ranges from charming homestays to more established guesthouses, often reflecting traditional Javanese architecture. Dining options might be more localized, offering authentic Indonesian flavours. Getting to this area from the nearest international airport is typically straightforward via taxi or ride-hailing services. For those looking to delve deep into the region's heritage, this district provides direct access to these iconic landmarks and the opportunity to book attractions that illuminate their history and significance.

Sleman City Centre

Sleman, the administrative hub that encompasses Kalasan, offers a more urban and contemporary experience. This district is characterized by its bustling markets, diverse shopping centres, and a wider array of modern amenities. It appeals to travellers from India and Africa who may seek greater convenience, a broader selection of dining options, and easier access to services. While it may lack the immediate historical ambiance of the temple areas, Sleman provides a practical and dynamic base for exploring the wider region.

Here, you'll find a mix of hotels, from budget-friendly options to mid-range establishments, catering to various needs. The culinary scene is vibrant, with numerous restaurants and street food stalls offering Indonesian and international cuisine. Transportation is well-developed, with ample taxis and ride-hailing services readily available. Sleman's central location also makes it an excellent starting point for day trips to other parts of Yogyakarta and beyond, offering a good balance of accessibility and local flavour. Maguwoharjo Area

The Maguwoharjo area is increasingly recognized for its convenient location, particularly its proximity to Adisucipto International Airport and major transportation routes. This makes it an attractive base for travellers from all source markets, especially those with early morning or late-night flights, or those planning onward journeys. The district has seen significant development in recent years, with a growing number of hotels and commercial establishments catering to transient and business travellers, as well as leisure tourists seeking convenience.

Accommodation in Maguwoharjo spans from airport hotels to guesthouses and budget-friendly stays, often featuring modern amenities. The dining scene is evolving, with many eateries and cafes serving local and international fare. Its connectivity is its strongest asset, with easy access to the airport and major roads facilitating travel within Kalasan and to other destinations. This area is ideal for travellers who prioritize efficiency and seamless transitions during their trip, ensuring minimal travel stress.

Residential and Suburban Zones

Beyond the main hubs, Kalasan also features quieter residential and suburban areas that offer a more laid-back and authentic glimpse into local life. These districts are often characterized by tree-lined streets, local communities, and a more relaxed pace. They can be particularly appealing to European travellers seeking a deeper cultural immersion and a respite from more tourist-centric areas, or to Indian families looking for a peaceful environment. While amenities might be more spread out, these zones provide a genuine feel of everyday Kalasan.

Lodging in these areas often includes homestays and smaller guesthouses, providing a more personal interaction with local hosts. Dining will likely involve local warungs (small eateries) and neighbourhood cafes, offering a true taste of home-style Indonesian cooking. While public transport might be less frequent, local transport options are usually available, and ride-hailing services can bridge any gaps. These areas are perfect for travellers who wish to experience the local rhythm and explore off-the-beaten-path discoveries.

Hotels with Rooftop Pool in Kalasan

For travellers seeking a touch of leisure and elevated views during their stay in Kalasan, properties featuring rooftop pools offer a distinct advantage. These accommodations provide not only a refreshing escape from the tropical climate but also a unique vantage point to appreciate the surrounding landscape, often with glimpses of distant volcanoes or the urban sprawl. This amenity is particularly sought after by travellers from the United States and Europe who are accustomed to such facilities and appreciate the added relaxation and aesthetic appeal.

The presence of a rooftop pool often signifies a hotel that aims to provide a more resort-like experience, even within a city context. These pools are typically accompanied by sun loungers and sometimes poolside bars, creating an inviting space for guests to unwind. While not as common as standard pools, their availability in Kalasan adds a layer of desirable luxury, often found in mid-range to higher-tier hotels. The cost associated with these properties might be slightly higher, but the added benefit of a rooftop pool can justify the investment for many international visitors.

Family-Friendly Hotels in Kalasan

When travelling with children or extended family, finding accommodation that caters to the needs of all age groups is paramount. Kalasan offers several hotels that are specifically geared towards families, providing amenities and services designed to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay for everyone. These establishments often feature larger rooms or suites, dedicated play areas, and sometimes even childcare services, making them a practical choice for travellers from India and the United States, where family travel is a significant segment of the market.

These family-friendly hotels understand the importance of convenience and safety for younger guests. They might offer specialized meal options, swimming pools suitable for children, and proximity to attractions that appeal to families. The overall atmosphere tends to be welcoming and relaxed, allowing parents to focus on creating lasting memories. While these properties might come at a slightly higher price point than standard accommodations, the peace of mind and enhanced experience they offer are invaluable for family holidays.

Hotels Near Kalasan Airport

For travellers whose itineraries involve early departures, late arrivals, or short layovers, staying near Adisucipto International Airport (JOG) in Kalasan is a strategic decision. This convenience minimizes travel time to and from the airport, reducing stress and allowing for more rest. This is particularly beneficial for travellers from all source markets, especially those on tight schedules or who are less familiar with navigating local transport late at night or early in the morning. The proximity offers a practical solution for seamless travel transitions.

These airport-adjacent hotels typically range from budget-friendly options to more comfortable mid-range establishments, often equipped with essential amenities for a short stay. Many offer shuttle services to and from the airport terminals, further enhancing convenience. While the immediate surroundings might be more commercial, the primary advantage is the ease of access to flights. Dining options are usually available within the hotels or in nearby commercial areas, ensuring that basic needs are met without extensive travel.

While sharing commonalities with Indonesian cuisine at large, Kalasan presents unique local specialties and preparations that are a delight for international visitors. From the sweet and savory Gudeg, a jackfruit stew often considered Yogyakarta's signature dish, to the spicy Ayam Goreng (fried chicken) and the comforting Soto Ayam (chicken soup), the region provides a diverse palate of tastes. Exploring these local delicacies is an integral part of the Kalasan experience, offering a delicious insight into the local culture.

For an authentic taste of Kalasan, exploring its local markets and street food stalls is highly recommended. Areas around the main town centre and near popular landmarks like Kalasan Temple and Sambisari Temple often host numerous food vendors offering a variety of local snacks and meals. For Muslim travellers, finding Halal food is generally straightforward, as a significant portion of Indonesian cuisine is prepared according to Halal principles. Look for establishments displaying "Halal" signs or inquire with vendors; most will be happy to confirm. Yogyakarta, as a whole, is known for its abundance of Halal options, making dining a comfortable experience for visitors from Muslim-majority countries like India and many in Africa.

The pricing for food in Kalasan offers excellent value for international travellers. Street food and local warungs (small eateries) can provide a filling and delicious meal for as little as USD 1.00 to USD 3.00. Mid-range restaurants offering a more comfortable dining experience typically charge between USD 5.00 and USD 15.00 per person. Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated for excellent service, with a small amount (around 5-10%) being customary. It's polite to use your right hand for eating and handling food. Be open to trying new flavours and don't hesitate to ask for recommendations from locals or hotel staff; their insights can lead to delightful culinary discoveries.

Cultural Norms and Staying Safe in Kalasan

Understanding and respecting local customs is key to a positive travel experience in Kalasan. Javanese culture, which heavily influences the region, emphasizes politeness, respect for elders, and a generally harmonious social interaction. While Kalasan is accustomed to tourists, particularly around its historical sites, dressing modestly, especially when visiting temples or more traditional areas, is advisable. This means covering shoulders and knees. A friendly smile and a polite greeting, such as "Selamat pagi" (Good morning) or "Terima kasih" (Thank you), go a long way in fostering positive interactions with locals.

When visiting the significant landmarks of Sambisari Temple and Kalasan Temple, specific etiquette should be observed. Both are sacred sites, and visitors are expected to behave respectfully. Dress codes are important; ensure shoulders and knees are covered. It is customary to remove your shoes before entering certain temple structures. Photography is usually permitted, but always be mindful of worshippers and avoid intrusive behaviour. If you encounter local ceremonies or prayers, it's best to observe from a respectful distance unless invited to participate. Understanding these nuances ensures you honour the spiritual significance of these ancient sites.

Safety in Kalasan is generally good, with petty crime being relatively low. However, as with any travel destination, it's wise to take precautions. Keep valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded markets or on public transport. For transportation, ride-hailing apps like Grab are widely available and offer a convenient and relatively safe way to get around, with prices clearly displayed upfront. This is a reliable option for travellers from all source markets, including the US, Europe, India, and Africa. Having offline maps downloaded on your phone can also be very helpful for navigation.

In case of emergencies, the local police number is typically 110. For medical assistance, dial 118 for an ambulance. While Kalasan itself may not host foreign embassies, the nearest embassies for major source markets are usually located in Jakarta or Yogyakarta. For US citizens, the US Embassy is in Jakarta. European citizens can contact their respective embassies in Jakarta (e.g., the British Embassy, German Embassy, French Embassy). Indian citizens can reach out to the Indian Embassy in Jakarta, and African nations like Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa will also have their diplomatic missions in Jakarta. It is always recommended to have travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and to note down the contact details of your country's embassy.
