Beautiful property and great staff. Walked into town and explored on our own. Our only complaint was that the only option for dinner was at the retreat, which did not have much variety for vegans/vegetarians and was generally just ok.

Sanak Retreat is such a special place. From the moment you arrive you are surrounded by natural beauty ... both from the natural environment and from the impeccable staff. The property has only 11 rooms so truly is a boutique hotel. It’s so peaceful. The spa is fantastic. We opted for multiple treatments during our stay. Our stay was a welcomed rest from the chaos (and traffic) of southern Bali. We will definitely return.

Everything was good, but good to have a queen bed instead of 2 double bed and good to have avacado toast and pancake as there were no other option for vegetarians.

What an amazing hotel! Not only are the rooms, facilities and staff great - they are also doing wonderful things for the local community around them.
The food at the restaurant was delicious (especially the local market fish) and breakfast was the best we've had in Bali (including the coffee).
If you want a relaxing retreat surrounded by nature then this is the place. The perfect location for recharging your batteries. I would also recommend the hike to the water fall and seeing some of the local villages - was a great day and tour guide was excellent.

Sanak Retreat is definitely somewhere you should check out and stay! It is eco-tourism at its finest where the local community benefits from part ownership and employment. There are great day activities such as trekking or village visits also. And the spa is AMAZING (and quite reasonably priced-the staff are also so kind there). The rooms are a different experience and I would highly recommend this place.

Beautiful location amongst rice paddies; one of the most photogenic places I've ever stayed. We came after the rice had just been harvested so may not have been at its prettiest but was still very special, particularly the view over rice paddies and distant hills at sunset. Daily 'events' (Balinese dance class for local school children, kite-flying...) added to the feeling that Sanak really is a 'family' and part of the community.
The decor in the rooms was stunning, although, if being picky, the lighting was a little dim.
Food and drinks were pricey compared to elsewhere in Bali, and I felt the quality didn't always reflect the price, but perhaps the prices are reflective of the retreat's remote location. The mocktails, however, were a stand-out - very inventive combinations. Try them all!
We did one tour - a walk through the forest and canoe trip across the lake. The guides were fantastic - very informative and friendly - and overall the tour felt very personal and special.
